DS Sample Sale 2012

I always love going to the DS Sample Sale, but this year's sale was SO much more fun because I got to meet Rita (of Red Pepper Quilts), Jen (of Gehring Road) and Jamie (of Terrabyte Farm)!!!

I knew Rita would be in NYC during the sale, so I invited her to take a little trip to CT so she could join Shannon and me at the sale. Jen heard that we were going so she asked to join us, and invited Jamie along too. SO FUN!

By the way, see that spider web quilt (second from the left)? It's gone home with Rita! It's my absolute favourite quilt that I always see at the sale, and I'm so thrilled that it now belongs to a friend!

Jamie and Rita inspecting the quilts.

Jen really inspecting the quilts hehe

This just made me laugh... I don't know why.

Rita contemplating purchasing the quilt... we were all telling her to DO IT. Such enablers :)

Buying fabric is serious business ya'll.

Shannon bought the shelf that Denyse used to keep her scraps in. LOVE this piece. Again, so thrilled it now belongs to a friend!!

There was a hand quilting demo, and I quite love the quilt they're quilting. Giant improv blocks... love!

We went to lunch after and chatted for quite a while. So nice to be surrounded by others who love quilting and fabric as much as you do.

I exercised some restraint this year and didn't buy so much. I know... impossible, but I managed! I forgot to take pictures while we had light (the sun goes byebye so early these days!) so I'll do that tomorrow when I remember!

DS Sample Sale: Fun Was Most Definitely Had!

Shannon and I went to Denyse Schmidt's sample sale over the weekend, and oh boy did we have fun. We couldn't help ourselves, and bought sooooo many things. But they were difficult to pass up, especially at such great prices. Well that's our story, and we're sticking to it! :)

It was great to see all the quilts from the new book once again. Denyse's version of the Mariner's Compass (hanging on the wall) is one of my faves.

The red and white courthouse steps quilt hanging on the frame is my favourite from the new book, but I think my all time favourite of Denyse's quilt is One Big Square hanging on the wall. LOVE.

Lots of rummaging through scrap bins... soooo many goodies!

A little photo shoot going on outside the studio. I cropped the lady's plumber's crack out of the picture. I'm sure she appreciates it.

We put all our purchases in the car and returned for the quilting demo by Peace by Piece

(We were carrying so many bags on our way down that we caught the eye of a journalist who wanted to interview us about the art scene being revived in the Bridgeport area. I don't know if we made it into the article but if / when I find it, I'll share it here.)

They had a frame set up to teach whomever was interested in learning hand quilting. Definitely makes you wish you had enough time to hand quilt, doesn't it?!

A beautiful quilt that one of the Peace by Piece quilters was showing off.

While we were in Bridgeport, we popped into Toppings Cupcakes to grab some yummy cupcakes. They have their cupcakes naked, and you choose whatever frosting you'd like. A couple of my cupcakes had two different frostings because I couldn't decide hehe The chocolate cupcake with salted caramel frosting was SO GOOD. Which is saying a lot because I don't typically like anything caramel, but this was just done so very right. Yum.

My haul...
- One queen Strings Attached quilt (it was pre-loved and only $50!!! What?!);
- One twin Spool quilt;
- Two small scrap bags;
- Four large solid scrap bags (they were only $5!);
- Seven plus yards of Kona Mustard on the bolt ($12!);
- Seven plus yards of a pink floral print on the bolt ($10!);
- A quilted bit that I've slapped some binding on and turn into a simple table runner (I'll show you soon, promise).

I'd be embarrassed by just how much I bought but I'm way too thrilled with what I got :) I'm demented enough to kind of wish I'd gotten more lol! Like I told Shannon's husband, don't judge! I'm so delighted that I went with Shannon (not that the hubs isn't great company) because it was definitely more fun to share this experience with a quilty friend :)

Denyse Schmidt Sample Sale

Just a little reminder that this weekend is Denyse's Annual Sample Sale. I'll be going with my friend Shannon, and it'll be her first time so that's super exciting :) Anyone else going?

Fat Quarter Sale At The Calico Cottage Quilt Shop

I'm not sure if anyone's interested but there's a 20% sale on fat quarter cuts (not bundles) on at The Calico Cottage Quilt Shop through until Wednesday August 12. I believe the discount's taken at the checkout so it shows original prices on the page still.

I Heart Sales

Yesterday my sister and I went shopping (because what else do two Singaporean girls do better than shopping!?) and she informed me that my Dad had heard about Mum buying me loads of fabric for my belated birthday present. Not to be outdone, my Dad insists he'd like to buy me things too! Yay for competitive parents!

She told me this because I'd come upon a Le Sportsac bag that was just too cute! Look! Bicycles! It makes me think of Paris for some reason.

It was originally $78 and I got it for $39 at Macy's. I thought it'd be a great crossbody bag for galavanting with my sister. All the other ones I have are either too small or very delicate (read: leather).

I love the little dog and the kite best.

Pssst!

There's a gigantic sale at Anthropologie that just started today. Gigantic in the sense that a lot is on sale, not that they slashed their prices by more than usual. Unfortunately *sigh*...

I still have quite a bit on the gift card I received for my birthday, so I may take a little trip down this afternoon if I've been a good girl and finished my sewing for the day.
