*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED ***
I'm not sure if I'd mentioned it on here before, but I've been lucky enough to be a part of this wonderful compilation of amazing quilty bloggers! I even made it to the cover! Well sort of... I'm in the lower left corner. Raise the roof! Whoop whoop!
I was dumbfounded when I was asked to contribute -- to be perfectly honestly, I thought someone was playing a very unfunny prank on me -- to this book because I don't really think about myself that way.
And then as if they were trying to give me a heart attack, Martingale came back and asked me to contribute TWO quilts. What the what?!? I mean, seriously?? I didn't think they'd pick one, let alone two!
This one is Lightning Strikes and it's further confirms my obsession with triangles.
This one's called Lanterns in the City. It's a play on the traditional courthouse steps and it's one of my most favourite quilts I've ever made. EVER.
Don't let my face on there scare you. It scares me, but that's another story for another time.
ANYWAY! All 18 bloggers who contributed to the book are each giving away an eBook of Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe! For a chance to win a copy of the eBook, tell me how you started quilting! A winner will be picked on Tuesday January 29th.
And for a complete list of all the bloggers who contributed to the book and their blog links, please visit Martingale's blog here. And you stand another chance to win the eBook there too! There you'll see an embarrassing picture of me at Sewing Summit with Katy and Amy. Truly horrifying. (All pictures of myself tend to horrify me.)
Good luck!!!

I started really quilting (as opposed to when I learned how and then dropped it) a few summers ago when I had my first in many many years summer home off work and wanted a new challenge!
My mom is a quilter and I decided I wanted to quilt too when I was 15! :D
my sister has quilted for years and then my sweet hubby bought me a sewing machine they rest is history
so i started making quilts at the age of 70 thanks for the chance
I started quilting right after I got married as something to do with my sewing skills and free time since we didn't have any kids at the time ... wish I had some more of that time today. It's been a great release for me and wonderful way to express myself. Your quilts are absolutely wonderful.
I need a copy of this: one way or another!
Thanks!
Love both quilts; congratulations! After 1.5 years of ogling every modern quilt blog I could find, I finally took the plunge and start quilting myself (Summer 2012). I LOVE IT.
Love your quilt!
Great giveaway1 Thanks!
I decided to start quilting after I employing my rudimentary clothes sewing skills on a Halloween costume. I can't remember how I made that leap, but now clothes scare the bejesus out of me!
great give away! I love the modern quilts and I love Ebooks :-)
I started quilting because of my sister in law. We went to knitting and stitching shows together, me for knitting, her for sewing. I found myself getting more and more drawn to the fabric stalls, and the next thing I knew, I was signing up for a quilting class!
Two quilts in one book-how awesome! They are lovely by the way....
Congrats!!! I'd love to have this amazing book!!!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I just decided one day that I wanted to learn how to sew, which quickly went to quilting! I taught myself and have been having a great time!
I started sewing when I was 8, mostly clothes as a 4H sewer. When I had my first baby in my 20′s, I made a couple quilts but then forgot about it again until about 5 years ago. A quilt store opened up in the small town I live in, and I started working there part time. Now I have an incredible stash, and I work on something for a little bit everyday!
I started quilting several years ago by joining a group in the neighborhood and have come to love it! I've picked up other hobbies in the last few years but put them aside in favor of making quilts. I love having something so beautiful to show for my work!
My grandmas both quilted, tho I never saw them do it. But, I grew up with quilts around and always loved them! The first quilt I bought fabric for was a HUGE Lone Star quilt, and by that I mean the diamonds were huge and there weren't many of them. I didn't (yet) understand about piecing and bias edges, had no idea how to put diamonds together, never even tried to piece the thing but had the cut out diamonds in my stash forever!
I love Lightning Strikes--dots!! :)
Ola ola Audrie ... I love the Lanterns in the City ... congarts ... the book looks good ... Lenka
the thing i love about this book is quite a few of my fave bloggers are in it which makes you feel kind of like you "know" the authors
I started quilting out of need of therapy and then i got hooked by the blog world of inspiration
I love your dots. Thanks for the chance to win such a great book.
vlhill3459(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
I've loved fabric since I was a little girl, watching my mother sew. I think I just wanted a great excuse to buy pretty fabrics and put them all together in one place and to make something for my loved ones.
I too love triangles. The lightning quilt? Cool. I've never been a fan of courthouse steps, but yours doesn't look like courthouse steps. I am intrigued!
I've been sewing my whole life and after my kids got older I finally decided I had enough patience to make a quilt. Well, now all I do is make quilts. HaHa. I love your courthouse steps quilt. Thanks for the giveaway.
You're by far one of my favorite bloggers so naturally I love your quilts! I started quilting because I didn't have time to knit or crochet some friends an afghan for their new baby, so I sewed them a quilt instead. That was only six months ago... Thanks!
firstly, i LOVE both of your quilts...esp. the lanterns in the city. it is so gorgeous...just had to get that out there. :)
i started quilting about 8 years ago or so because of a co-worker i got to know. i was a sewist, but hadn't done any quilting...i made clothes/skirts/medieval garb/curtain/home decor type stuff. she got me to join a little quilting group and we started making handbags and selling them together. we are no longer co-workers, but we still share inspiration with each other online and enable each other to spend way too much on fabric.
thanks for the chance to win this book. i really, really want to make both your quilts (and a lot of the others i have seen).
Awesome! Two quilts! Good for you! I love them. The whole book looks pretty great. Thanks for the chance to win!
I started quilting about 25 years ago when I took an intro quilt class so I could make some bed quilts for my girls. Have been quilting and learning ever since.
I started quilting after seeing my mum make a few and thinking it looked fun. Plus, I was at university in a freezing house and the more bedcovers, the better!
Would love to own this book!
I started quilting to make a quilt for my cousin's baby
she is now 33.
I have started quilting again for the third time
as school and work responsibilities have interfered over the last 30+ years
my 33 y/o cousin still has that quilt,, it is in tatters but, she still has it.
I started quilting after I saw a quilt on the internet I liked and I taught myself to quilt. I have always sewn, just never quilted.
Great projects!
thanks for giving us a chance to win this great looking book!
My grandmother gave her treadle sewing machine to me a few years ago, and my first project was a patchwork pillowcase. Once I discovered all the great blogs on modern quilting, I was hooked!
i made a blanket for my dog, and realised later it was a quilt!
After admiring others' quilty projects online, I decided to get off the sidelines and get in the game. I started off small - with a mug rug. And after a year of slowing trying new and bigger projects, I worked myself up to finishing my first quilt last year.
Wow - triangles are definitely the way to go. Congrats on being in this awesome book.
Thanks for the chance to win! and congrats on being included in this book!
Would love to get my hands on this book!
They are beautiful quilts. Congrats!
I've sewn for as long as I can remember. I wanted a new challenge and at a fabric fair myself and a friend bought a jelly roll each. she discovered she disliked finishing quilts off. i discovered i needed to make more (as well as completing hers!) It's been just over two years since I made my first,I make them for friends a gifts and for my daughter. I love choosing fabrics and making something happen-ty , jo x
Tried to do a small sampler and got so frustrated so I put it up. Then I saw some fabric I loved and decided to just do squares. I ended up with a huge quilt. :) Once I tackled that.... I was hooked and ready to try anything!
Thanks for the giveaway! Krista
I started quilting because I've always loved color and fabric, and quilting allows me to combine great quantities of the two.
I started quilting because I loved modern fabric, and my grandma quilts.
I took a class at the LQS. Thanks for the giveaway!
I started quilting after a decision that I wanted to make things for myself and my family (was expecting my first child). Fall of 2010 was learning how to do it. I'd always been inspired by my grandmother's McCalls Needlework & Craft magazines.
Fawn
Love your quilt and the giveaway! taly
I started quilting because my son used to have "play dates" with a friend whose mother ran a quilt shop. I would pick up and drop off the boys at the shop. So of course I had to sign up for a class!
I started sewing first and quilting started after seeing quilts at a store. I never made a quilt like I saw but it got me started. thanks for the opportunity to win.
After making my first rag quilt I knew I just had to learn how to quilt and enjoy it so much!! Your quilts are just amazing...love them both!!!
I started a log cabin cut from a tissue paper pattern in high school. the cutting alone totally turned me off to quilting! Then about 12 years ago my Mom showed me her rotary cutting tools and I was so excited... I took a beginning quilting class in 2002 and love it!
I have had this book on my wish list!!
I've only been quilting for a year as a way to de-stress from grad school. It's amazing how much writing you can get done once you unlock the creativity channels. It's also amazing how much writing you can ignore when you're in the quilting-zone.
I made my very first quilt when my husband left me and my two boys to work in Melbourne for three months. In order to fill in the lonely nights, I self taught myself to make a quilt. Till to date, it's still a well loved quilt. It also reminds me of the survival and crazy time on my own with two very young boys.

I started quilting many years ago, gave it a rest and then re-started again very recently when my partner was ill. I find it very calming. It is also a very warm hobby!! Thank you for chance of winning this beautiful book.
I love your take on the chevron pattern. Thanks for the chance to win!
I love bouth your quilts
Congrats on being published!
As I discovered blogland and so many quilters and techniques I wanted to do that myself as well. I'm still at the begging but I'm having so much fun.
I took a quilt-in-a-day class 30 years ago, made one small log cabin quilt and didn't do another until last year...when I caught the quilting bug! Love it now! Congrats on being published twice!
I started bc I saw some pictures of a handmade quilt on FB from a friend, and then started searching for blogs on the internet and got sucked in!
The book looks great, just need to decide which one to make first.....
I started quilting when my children were grown and I didn't spend as much time making clothing. I've loved it for 20 years now! (whoa - that makes me sound old!)
I started quilting after seeing quilts my grandmother made.
I started quilting when I moved to a new country, New Zealand. I joined a group mainly to make new friends, and fell in love with quilting. I have never stopped and that was in 1971.
Loving your chevron quilt....and a chance to win!
In the mid70s, the BBC ran a tv series on quilting which got me interested. Then I visited the US (I live in the UK) in 1976 and there was so much about quilting because of the Bicentennial. I've been hooked ever since!
5 years ago I was seduced by a free class offered by my local quilt shop. 9 months later I ordered my longarm and a week after setting it up I had a customer quilt on the frame. Haven't looked back...fell totally in love!!!
I started quilting when I had my first baby. Beautiful book!!
I made my first quilt back when I was just out of college, in 1983. Let me tell you, it was hideous. They quilting tools we take for granted now were not available. I made a few baby quilts, then basically stopped sewing when my boys were little... I started quilting again briefly in the 90's.. I made a few and then tired of it.... I think it was all the drab, dark colors. :) I started again in 2009, and there's no stopping me now. Anyhow, you probably didn't want my life story. Thanks for the chance to win this awesome book!
I starting quilting before my first son was born and have been addicted to fabric ever since.
Two patterns, congratulations!
I've been sewing since I was quite young (maybe from the age of 6?), and I think quilting is a pretty natural progression when looking for something more challenging. I guess now I'm also at the age where many of my friends are having their first babies, and quilts are wonderful keepsakes to make for them that they won't grow out of too quickly!
I started quilting because I found a quilt shop near my work and it had always attracted me.
Congrats for being on the book!!! Terrific quilt.
Thanks for the chance to win!
My quilting friend bought me this book already and it's great! Just wanted to say woohoo! Way to go Audrie!
Just over five years ago I asked for a sewing machine for Christmas - I was tired of paying $15 a pop to get my pants hemmed. Well, there it sat while I continued to use convenient double-sided tape. The next March I broke down and asked my grandmother to teach me how to hem. Baby steps she said. Learn to sew a straight line first she said. Here, sew these two squares of fabric together she said. A week later I had a full-sized 9-patch. I didn't learn to hem for another two years. I see you grandma...you evil genius!
A friend taught me to quilt 8 years ago, and I haven't stopped since :)
ourbusylittlebunch(at)hotmail(dot)com
I started by getting a sewing machine and some books and I jumped in!
I started quilting kind of on a whim after my baby was born (quite awhile ago now) and I needed something to do for me as a new stay at home mom.
I started quilting 4 years ago when my husband worked the night shift. Now I just wish I had more time to quilt :). Your lantern quilt is awesome!
Well, it's the blog friends encourage me. I saw a QAL and then I join and I love it until now.
You sneaky devil, keeping this under wraps. Love Love LOve the lanterns quilt. Im not going to tell you how long I've been quilting for cos then you'd work out how OLD I am :(
OMG!! I'm so excited!!!!! I am just tickled you are in this book. It's filled with my favorite bloggers **YOU** and I'd love a copy. Thanks for the chance to win it.
I learned to quilt originally with my grandmother when I was 9 years old. She had started some quilts by piecing together crumbs of old clothing and textiles, and she let me use her sewing machine! She was so brave! My first quilt was 48 inches square and made with baby blue and chocolate brown polyester fabrics (ewe) and was turned and stuffed with goodness only knows what and tied with brown yarn. I have no idea whatever became of that quilt. It made me sweat while sitting under it. And not in a good way - how polyester makes you sweat but doesn't keep you warm! In later years I was taught and made my first quilt with...templates made from potato chip boxes. I still have those. WHY??? Today I am excited by the modern fabrics as well as the vintage and I strive to use a mixture of both in my quilts. Gives them life! I hope to win a copy of the book - how wonderful!
I started quilting when my friend gave me an Amazon gift card, and I thought it was the perfect time to buy books for a new craft! :)
My grandma, who was self taught, taught me just about every craft imaginable, including quilting.I just wish I didn't have a full-time job so I could sew and bake all day!
I took a hand quilting class at the local community college after my youngest child graduated from our homeschool. I haven't looked back since. :-) Congratulations on having two quilts included in the book.
It feels like I've been quilting forever, but it's only been since 1991. My mother was a quilter, and I was inspired by her.
I absolutely love your Lanterns in the City quilt! I started stitching and hand work as a young girl after watching a close family friend hand make all her quilts!
Great book!
You have two great looking quilts in the book, I would love to win a copy!
I decided I wanted to make a baby quilt, so i took a aclass. Let's just say that I have constant rtouble with keeping those points matched up! LOL
I signed up to take my first quilting class before I knew I was pregnant with our first child. I kept falling asleep during the evening class since I had been up since 5:15 for work. Years and 3 babies later, I finished that quilt. I love creating and feel like I can make something of beauty when I complete a quilt.
Congratulations! I'd love to win this book! Thanks for the chance!
I have been quilting for forever. don't really know what got me started. other than loving to sit and stitch with my Nana...did some other crafts here and there, always come back to quilting. love both of your quilts
I started quilting when I was 17 years pld and made a baby quilt for a cousin- I had no idea how to make a quilt! But it came out pretty good for a first try!
Thanks for the giveaway! the quilts look great!
CONGRATULATIONS! Good for you!
Oh! I was so excited for you I didn't realize it was a give away. I was self taught in quilting but my Meme (grandmother) taught me to sew.
I have been sewing since I was twelve, and one day decided to take up quilting because my older sister Nan was a quilter and made such beautiful things. Still have the first thing I ever made, a Christmas tree skirt. Thanks for the give away!
Book looks very good. Good blog. Love both of your quilts.
I took a mini log cabin quilt - four blocks; loved doing the log cabin; make a queen size log cabin quilt from that one and continue to learn and become better at quilting.
I found Oh Fransson's blog and it was love from there!
My grandma was quilting & I got interested by watching her so I started sewing with her scraps. ll_gee@hotmail.com
What a fantastic book!! Thanks for the opportunity!
I'd been thinking about it for ages! Then one day saw some beautiful quilt patterns in a magazine - and that was that! The book looks amazing! congratulations!
I started quilting for real when my daughter was getting married and I did a quilt to surprise her. I now have my own long arm business!!!
Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the book, I can't wait to get my hands on a copy! This past summer I picked up a Kaffe Fassett fat quarter and have 4 quilts under my belt and cannot wait to begin more!
I started quilting when my boy attend the boarding school and did him a quilt. thanks for the chance with the giveaway!
Well, I always loved crafts: crochet, cross stitch, etc. So one day I went to my local quilt shop and signed up for a beginning class in quilting. That was almost 20 years ago and I'm still quilting way! Congrats on getting noticed and publishing in the book. You deserve it!
Started quilting to save my sanity after moving from CA to Chicago. Some friends recommended a beginning quilting class to get me out of the house when it snowed. That was more than 10 years ago and the rest is history!
My stepmother got me started with paper piecing now I try it all!
What a fantastic book and what fantastic quilts. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book.
I started quilting back in 1984 because I loved the look and feel of quilts and wanted to make one for myself!
Beautiful quilts and wonderful book!
I'd love to add this book to my library.
Your TWO quilts are terrific -- really showcase some great ideas.
Looks like a beautiful book full of wonderful inspiration. I am a new quilter that decided one day that I needed to stop admiring others quilts and try to make my own. Now that I am an empty nester I have alot of time to learn. Thank you.
anglanouette(at)gmail(dot)com
Wow! Your quilt is awesome! Thanks for the chance to win.
Lovely quilts! I learnt to quilt when I moved to a new country and made a new friend who taught me how to quilt!
Congrats on being included in the book! Thank you for the giveaway
We have a quilting group at work... I joined over 2 years ago having sewed my entire life but never having tried to quilt. The ladies in the group make quilts all year long and donate them to patience at City of Hope hospital.
I made my first quilt when I was in high school. It was a baby quilt for a Spanish teacher. My mothertaughtme to sew when I was fairly young. I made my first clothing for myself in 3rd grade.
I started quilting as sort of a homage to the women that came before me and out of a need to create and give something from the heart. I am a self-taught quilter and give most of my quilts to charity.
Wow, I would love to win this book. Thankyou for the opportunity. Modern quilting is so fresh, exciting and anost anything goes - I love it.
The book offer so much inspiration. Thanks for the chance to win.
Love both of your quilts in this book!! Great additions!!
I started quilting for charity. Thanks for the chance to win
I started quilting 16 y ago after seing quilts in a magazine. Thanks for the chance to win.
I've always sewn but I decided I wanted to make my Mum a quilt for her 80th birthday and I've never stopped since!
absolutely love zigzags!
I started quilting when pregnant and fell in love. I wish I had more time to finish projects though!
Thanks, Cute quilt!
gigiv13@gmail.com
I would love to win a copy!
My mom taught me to sew when I was only about 8 years old and I've done a lot of sewing in the last 45 years, but she loved quilting best of all. Although I moved thousands of miles away, she would alway tell me of her quilts and show me pictures. Sadly when she passed away 5 years ago, she left many quilt tops and I took them over and took a class in quilting and have fallen in love with the whole process. I have all of mom's quilting tools and still have lots of her fabric stash and love every minute of it. Now, I introduced my grown daughter to quitling with a retreat last November and she too, loves the craft and has really taken off in the modern quilt direction. Thanks for the chance to win this book!
I started quilting when I had my son. I just wanted to make every baby a quilt!
Started quilting soooo long ago when I found out I was pregnant with my first child....and haven't stopped quilting since! I still quilt several hours every day.
Love this book..just beautiful
Double congrats for you - your quilts are awesome! When my kids were little and money was on the slim side, I began quilting throw quilts made from old denim jeans. Now it's called upcycling, but then it was called being frugal. They were just patchwork quilts, not really quilted but tied because they were so thick. They made perfect picnic blankets and everyone in my family has one!
I've been quilting for 28 or so years.I started when we used templates and scissors. My earliest quilts were tied and I still have a pieced sampler in my UFO pile that needs to have the hand quilting finished. I'm a machine quilter now(only for myself) and I would never get anything done without my trusty rotary cutter. I love all the modern fabrics used in traditional designs.
I started quilting when we bought a brass bed and didn't have enough $ left to purchase a quilt. I intended to make just one, but like some potato chips, one just isn't rnoug.
Those quilts are beautiful! I was cold one winter, and decided that I wanted a flannel quilt, and so I would make one. Took me 2 years to finish it, and ended with me climbing inside what was essentially a huge pillowcase in order to spread the batting (I had no idea what I was doing), but I finished it! I've come a long way since then, suffice to say :)
I'd been living in Thailand (my husband worked there) when my Mom died suddenly. My Dad asked me to stay with him for a couple of months after and I didn't have much to do. I ended up at a place called Piece Makers in Costa Mesa, CA one day and saw that they were having a class for beginner quilt making. So I took the class. It was for Log Cabins. That was in 1988 and I've been doing it ever since. My Mom was a crafty person too, so it seemed sort of fitting that I learn.
I started quilting in 1976 (likely, that's before you were born!) when I took a three-week quilting class in adult education. We learned how to hand piece and hand quilt. With avarice library research and reading (about quilting) on my part, by the end of three weeks, I knew more about quilting than the instructor!
It would be great to win this book to use as a giveaway at one of our new MQG chapter meetings, here in Central Florida. Thanks for the chance!
I started quilting when I was about 6, a long time ago and my mother taught me.
OK, so many years ago I used to sit and embroider at lunch, and I was joined by a coworker who brought her piecing. Then a few more joined it with their knitting, etc. Anyway, I got interested in quilting from those stitching lunches. Then I started reading about quilting (how to, and the history of) and I got even more interested...
Congrats on having TWO quilts in the book! I enjoy reading your blog even if your posts about NYC make me homesick. :-)
In college, my dorm's sleeping room was unheated. I was a sewer....how hard could it be to make a warm, patchwork quilt? I cut big squares it of pre-quilted red, blue and yellow calico (it was the 70's, ya know), stitched them together, put a blanket in the middle and a sheet on the back. jerilynn
Hello. I really enjoy reading your blog and I love the quilts you contributed to the book. I have loved fabric since I was a little kid in the 70s playing with my mom's calico prints. I learned to sew in 8th grade, but it wasn't until I was in my late 30s that I took a park district quilting class. I've been hooked ever since, and the blogging world really began fueling my creativity when I discovered all of its goodness about a year ago.
I love the look of modern quilts.....this book looks fantastic! Connie in California
I started quilting as an undergrad in college- I wanted to play with colors, and I truly suck at painting/drawing. So I stumbled into fabric... and fell in love.
I had been sewing for years. After I had kids I wanted to make something for them that would last and be a sort of heirloom (my son still uses the quilt my grandma made for me when I was a kid). Needless to say, after my first quilt top, I was addicted. I love everything about it.
I always wanted a home made quilt but no one in my family was a quilter. So I made my first one with a friend's mom. It was a log cabin lap quilt all hand cut with sissors! After that I took a rotary cutting class and taught myself to quilt with more modern techniques form books and I've been quilting for 14 years now! I love it! (And I finally do have many home made quilts in my house.)
I took a class when I lived in Singapore and never put my needle back down!
I got hooked when my husband's co-worker's wife decided to show some of other wives how to paper piece during a corporate retreat. It was so relaxing and it didn't stop there!
I started with my grandmother
Awesome collection of quilts! It's at the top of my wish list!
My mother started me quilting, of course. The funny thing is that she was in her 60's when she started - which means that I was in my 40's. We're both kicking ourselves that we didn't start sooner. So many quilts, so little time. (yours are fabulous, by the way)
- sunshdws at yahoo dot com
Perfect quilt! Thanks for the opportunity
I love love love your Lanterns in the City quilt. I will have to get the book just to get that pattern! Gorgeous!
What a great book!
I've sewn since I was 10 and when i saw my first Bearpaw block I was hooked.
Great book! I would love to win this giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity!
I started quilting while living overseas and the desire to create unique baby gifts. Where I was living at the time craft supplies were not always easy to findk but I could get items so sewing. This made quilting a convient hobby at the time. Twenty plus years later, it seems it stuck!
I started quilting after I won a FQ bundle of Good Folks on Anna Maria Horner's blog!
Not to be outdone by my husband's first, very domestic wife, I "needed" to quilt. LOL
My husband got me started when he decided to learn how to sew. He was most interested in making me clothes and bags and I was more interested in pairing textiles. Now we have to jockey for the sewing machine. How's that for gender equality!?

Audrie...do you live in NY? I perused through your earlier blog pics and found some familiar sights on film. I just visited for the first time this past spring and I LOVE NY! Hope to win your book!
Congratulations. Hope I win as I'd love to make your pattern.
Love your quilts! The book looks amazing! Thanks for the chance to win.

my Aunt started me quilting when I visited one summer in late middle school. I made a block into a pillow, came home and told my mom we had to do more! so i got my mom hooked.
Fingers crossed!
As always you make me laugh! Love the quilts you contributed and it really is a nice photo of you. At the risk of showing my age, I started quilting around 1980...there were no classes and the fabric back then quite frankly was UGLY! I quit quilting because of that until a few years ago when I saw all the gorgeous fabric there was. It's a much better world now :)
my grandmother quilted and I always loved what she created. So several years ago I just decided I wanted to quilt and I took a class...been hooked ever since
It looks like a great book! Thanks for the chance to win a copy. I have enjoyed sewing since I was about 11 and for years I sewed clothing and home dec items but no quilts. There are no quilters in my family. So when I discovered blogs, it sparked my interest in quilting. Now it is my favourite type of sewing.
Thanks for this chance to win! I love your quilts, they are so beautiful!
I started quilting after I retired and moved to the beach! I thought what could be more relaxing than sitting at the sewing machine following in the path of my grandmother and aunt (well I do it at the machine while they did it by hand....). Truly I took a beginner class last Jan. and have been quilting ever since....9 quilts and many several table runners later I am thoroughly addicted!!!!
I got my start many many years ago with my mom using cardboard templates! Boy have we came a long way baby!
I started quilting two weeks ago when I woke up and realized that all I really wanted to do was sit at my sewing machine and make "blankies". If it wasn't for the blogging universe I would have had no idea where to start. Thanks for the chance to win this amazing book.
I was looking on the web and found the Crafty classes. I have always sewn, but quilting sounded like (and is) fun!
Thanks for the chance to win
Great book,such inspiration! I hope I win! ;o)
I had to move from the UK to Canada to start quilting. Never even knew what quilting was before I came here. Then it seemed like everyone here was an expert at some type of artsy-craft. My boyfriend bought me a Kenmore machine (which I still own, although now it's taken a back seat to my new Janome!) and I took some home-ec type basic quilting classes at the local high school and 20 years later, here I am with~ a whole whack of ufo's.
Love your blog! Congrats on getting in the book, you deserve it.
Growing up I watched my 85 years old grandma sew. Then one day needing to find a unique baby shower gift, I decided to attempt to make a baby quilt. Two weeks later, I gifted the not so bad looking quilt to my friend. Ever since then I have been addicted to making quilts although I still consider myself a beginner.
Love your blog.

I stumbled upon it. I found myself with a large self-healing cutting mat and a Groupon coupon for online quilting classes. So, I said, "What the heck." That was a few months ago. I love it.
I wanted to quilt because my mother did. She learned in the 70s using the Georgia Bonesteel book and taking a class at the John C. Campbell Folk School.
I just had this urge to quilt...once I got the bug I never looked back!
A friend took me to her guild meeting when I was 19 as I had always sewn clothing. I loved it right away.
Great quilts! Thanks for the chance to win
I've recently discovered this wonderful quilting community of bloggers! It's been so much fun! The bonus is with this book promo I've discovered several more quilters!
erm.. actually i haven't started but have been wanting to for the longest time ever.. i am so going to start very soon.. I finally took the plunge and bot some quilt supplies yesterday. First up will be a small one for my baby. So inspired by the many you made. Btw, I'm from Singapore, do you think quilts will be too warm for babies here? I've been pondering tt for the longest time and since i read that you were from Singapore, you may have some insight. Should I just make a sandwich of 3 cotton pieces so tt it will be lighter instead of the normal batting insert which are thick? Sorry this turned out into a question.. hehe. Reply when you can? Thanks.
I always loved quilts, but that radiation was not in my family. When I became a stay at home mom, and returned to the US, I started to teach myself. Love the changes over the years.
I love your quilts! Thank you for the chance to win a copy of the book.
Congratulations!! I love both of your creations and can't wait to purchase this book!
I started quilting 4 years ago when my daughter joined a quilting therapy group at Wellspring, a wonderful resource for cancer support. She visited the LQS that had kindly donated fabric and signed herself and my mother up for a pretty intense applique class. That quilt is full of memories.
She coerced me into joining them for a beginners class. So began many hours of fun and friendship. The kindness of quilters is really unparalleled. Quilting has been therapeutic for all of us and the excuse for many roadtrips which is how I met you at your fantastic LQS!
Oh ! Oh ! Oh! I love you two quilts! The balance you achieved with the polka dot triangles into zig zags is just exquisite! And the solids, plus the quilt in you lanterns is wonderful too. You make me want to try working with solids. I grew up in a potholder and baby quilt-making family, but I didn't start quilting myself, till I was pregnant. 14 years later I picked it up again, this time in earnest, and this time with fantastic fabrics and the whole wonderful blogging universe as teachers and co-conspirators.
(I'm sorry if this is posted twice. I'm not sure if it worked the first time.) I worked at a fabric store in high school. Although I didn't sew at all at the time (I just put the bolts away after they were cut), I fell in love with fabric and knew I wanted to make things out of it. I didn't have the guts to actually do it until a few years after high school, but I was totally hooked!
I used to sew a lot of my own clothes and I love all the different fabrics available today--I decided to try quilting and now I can't stop!
I started quilting in college - a twin quilt sewn, quilted and bound by hand. That may have been a mistake, but I still use it on my bed every night!
I think I wanted to connect to all those ladies who quilted to keep their families warm - I can't even imagine the hardship of that!
My quilting path starting a very long time ago with barbie bed quilts for the barbie townhouse! When I got married in the early nineties I started quilting like crazy! It is a passion that forever grows and transforms me.
I watched my grandma make quilts when I was a little girl and then when I got a sewing machine as a grad present I made my first one. It has since been lost in a fire but I remember it with love.
This is truly amazing! Congrats to you! Your quilts in it are perfect!
I started quilting about 4 years ago because I have always wanted to know how to quilt - and all I was ever taught was the 'tie quilt' kind. I wanted to delve into REAL quilting. I've been smitten ever since. :)
I'd wanted to quilt since I was little, thanks to Laura Ingalls Wilder, but it wasn't until my similarly obsessed sister just picked up and started doing it--successfully!--that I really understood I could do it too!
What a fun, book. I started quilting 30 years ago when I lived in Pennsylvania and that's what people do there, and actually in the winter there isn't much else to do....I migrated over to modern quilts and fabrics after a recent and lifechanging illness. I think I needed to jump start myself and my life. SO there you have it!!!
I started quilting trying to make a baby quilt for my first child. I still have it too and she is now 23.
Inspiring designs!
I was inspired to make quilts because of an old crazy quilt we had that my Grandma had made. It was on a bed in our basement and I loved all the mishmash of different fabrics and the crazy stitching. A wool blanket was the batting and it was a heavy old thing. My interest in quilts stemmed from it.
I started quilting on a bit of a whim a couple of years ago after stumbling across a few quilting blogs. Once I began I was immediately obsessed & haven't looked back. I'm self-taught but blogs have really given me the skills & confidence to keep going. I love both of your quilts, they're amazing. Congrats on being published!
