Grotton Long Point

Every summer, the hub's co-worker has a party at his beach house in Grotton Long Point, CT. It's a bit of a haul but the place is so beautiful, it's worth the drive. And even though it means walking around in the sunshine, I enjoy going because I get to put faces to all the stories the hubs tells me about work. It's all so quintessentially New England to me... all the beautiful beach houses and boats bobbing in the water.

Whenever we end up leaving, we're usually hungry again, and this time we stopped at a little seafood place that also had ice cream. The idea was to have ice cream after dinner, but there wasn't any room left haha! I'd have taken pictures but I was elbow deep in fish and chips. I think the hubs hates when I eat that because I tend to remove all the batter haha! Didn't seem too upset when he was eating the batter off my plate though... hahaha!

How was your weekend? Get up to anything fun?

Northampton

A few pictures I took in Northampton over the weekend with my Canon G1X that I forgot about. I'm no longer used to a camera smaller than a brick, so I forget I even have the little guy. It takes pretty nice pictures actually, even though the inability to focus it on what I want it to focus on is a wee bit annoying.

And this is what I see when we go out to eat. So romantic :P He's lucky I like him.

I've Missed The Water

I don't typically go into the water (unless forced at gunpoint because sharks, you guys!) but I love looking at it. I grew up on an island, and in Australia, my apartment was on a peninsular on the Swan River. So there was always water everywhere I looked. (Plus hot men running in tiny shorts or playing footy... Wonderful scenery.) These days, I'm pretty much land-locked, and I didn't think I'd miss the water much at all, but I really, really do.

This past weekend the hubs was invited to an annual work thing held along the shore and it was sooooo nice to smell that salt air and watch an actual sunset.

The hubs... Photo-bombing.

There was a funny parade of boats, and this one was my favourite!

Ahhhh the beautiful sunset :)

And then I came home and washed the crap out of my feet. All that sand was making me die a little inside. Yes, I know I'm damaged.

New York, New York

The hubs and I spent a couple of days in the city this past weekend and it was HUUUUUUMID. So muggy and gross, but the awesomeness of the city distracts you from that just a little.

We took a train into the city and got the old, mucky trains again. I've been spoiled by the lovely new ones that these ones were like riding in rubbish bins. Blech.

Our hotel was near The City Quilter so it was one of our first stops! (More on this later!!)

192 Books... an amazing bookshop full of literature, art and cookbooks.

In our hotel room after ducking in for a shower to try to recover from the humidity.

As always... Num Pang was awesome! They always have new stuff on their menu, so I tried a catfish sandwich this time. Loooovely.

The hubs had a Brooklyn sausage one that was pretty damn good too.

A great pizza place called Co. and their pizzas were simple but so bloody good. Seriously.

And POP BURGER. OMG so cute! Look at how teeny and tiny they are! But don't be fooled... they're filled with meaty goodness. Noms.

My gelato looked like a bunny rabbit :)

Puzzled by Aztec superfood at Whole Foods. (Well, not puzzled anymore because a whole bunch of friends on Instagram gave us good ideas on how to ingest it.)

COFFEEEEEE... necessary for starting our day in NYC.

B&H Photo was shut all weekend :( Sadpants. But my bank account is a happy fellow haha!

Last Sunday

We spent Sunday in Northampton, and this time with my MIL. We hadn't hung out with her just the three of us for ages, so I'm glad we did :) We had Mexican for lunch, found a new bubble tea place and did a lot of walking around. The hubs pretty much went off into every bookshop there was, and I shopped with my MIL... So everyone was happy :)

By the way, that's the hubs and his mum in the background of the pansy picture. It's the only way I can take a picture of the woman. She always pulls some Matrix shit whenever there's a camera around so it's almost impossible to take a picture of her not scowling. My mum's kind of the same way, as am I... which is probably why I'm the photographer :)

And to make a great day even better, I came home to find the tulips blooming!!! How pretty are they! I never tire of how gorgeous these ones are by my mailbox. I LOVE tulips :)

Big Pimpin Up In NYC

Did everyone have a lovely weekend? It was pretty disgusting weather-wise, but the hubs and I had ourselves some fun. On Friday we took a little day trip to NYC because I had to get something done at the Australian Consulate. After that it was a lot of shopping and walking and eating and walking and walking... You get the idea :)

The lanterns at Chelsea Market... One of the few sights I pulled my camera out for. Gorgeous :)

I mainly took pictures with my iPhone and posted it to Instagram so many of my bloggy friends came along for the ride hehe

(I'll go left to right on each row...)

On the train to the city. They'd better not change back to using the yucky old trains because I'll cry.

Purl Soho! My Mecca! I went to poke around and of course left with fabric. To leave empty-handed would be a crime, no?

Some of the 18 miles of books at The Strand. I just like walking around, surrounded by books.

I found CASSETTES on sale at Other Music. WHAT!?!?! The hubs said they're making a comeback. Seriously? Can someone look in to this please? My pre-teen self is giddy with nostalgia. Just picture it: bopping around with your Walkman. Yes, please! And if you don't remember cassettes, don't make me hit you.

We grabbed an early lunch at Num Pang. They now have a shop in Midtown and as a shortypants, I'd like to request that they have a table that's a tad lower because I was kind of eating on my tippy toes. Stop. Laughing. HEE.

That's the hub's ginger soy brisket. Where's the picture of my sandwich, you ask? Well. He'd taken mine thinking it was his and by the time I finished taking the pic of his sandwich, he'd eaten half of mine. Oh honey. You're lucky I can't kill you.

We went to the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop in the East Village and that's the hub's Choinkwich. Cho for chocolate, oink for the bacon marmalade, wich for the two chocolate cookies. Sounds insane but it works.

My Salty Pimp. Vanilla ice cream with dulce de leche, sea salt and dipped in chocolate. I wanted to marry it.

And as always, we visited the giant Nutella bottles at Chelsea Market. I want to swim in it. My love for Nutella runs deep, ya'll.

And on Saturday and Sunday...
We bought a generator. Finally. The hubs wouldn't let me help lift it because I'm a nugget and I'll start to cry. His words, not mine.

I hate eggplant in general, but oh my goodness these eggplant fries make my toes curl. I'll bet money my sister Averil who also hates eggplant will like these.

I wandered the mall while the hubs got his haircut. I cannot be left alone because I buy things. Although I'm kind of excited about this spatula paddle (spatudle?) and the hubs tried to get me to try it out when we got home.

And then I made salmon and veggies for dinner.

The end.

The Weekend In Pictures

How was everyone's weekend? We went to Northampton again. We're boring and we like it.

On the way to Northampton, we dropped by the library to pick up a book the hubs had on hold, and I stayed outside to enjoy the insane wind and take some pictures.

Northampton on Saturday was interesting. It started with insane wind... which is really not good for one's hair (although, admittedly, venturing outside during a wind advisory was not clever on our part). Then there was snow at 43F (6C). And then back to lots of gusty, gusty wind. I had to run after a shopping trolley at the supermarket to keep it from smashing into our car. Glamourous.

Perfect Day For A Stroll

Over the weekend it was snowing and bitterly cold, and looked like this...
So of course we thought it was a perfect day to go walking around Northampton so we could freeze our faces off.

It was loads of fun though. Walking around the snow can be a bit mucky and scary but you can basically walk like a demented toddler and no one will think you're being silly. Probably. Well the hubs kept laughing at how slowly and stupidly I walked, so I kindly reminded him that he dragged me here when we could be living in Australia. HAH.

And I think next time we go prancing around in the snow, in 20F weather, I'll need to get myself a balaclava first. Sure people will think I'm going to rob the bank but who cares!
