*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED ***
I'm not sure if I'd mentioned it on here before, but I've been lucky enough to be a part of this wonderful compilation of amazing quilty bloggers! I even made it to the cover! Well sort of... I'm in the lower left corner. Raise the roof! Whoop whoop!
I was dumbfounded when I was asked to contribute -- to be perfectly honestly, I thought someone was playing a very unfunny prank on me -- to this book because I don't really think about myself that way.
And then as if they were trying to give me a heart attack, Martingale came back and asked me to contribute TWO quilts. What the what?!? I mean, seriously?? I didn't think they'd pick one, let alone two!
This one is Lightning Strikes and it's further confirms my obsession with triangles.
This one's called Lanterns in the City. It's a play on the traditional courthouse steps and it's one of my most favourite quilts I've ever made. EVER.
Don't let my face on there scare you. It scares me, but that's another story for another time.
ANYWAY! All 18 bloggers who contributed to the book are each giving away an eBook of Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe! For a chance to win a copy of the eBook, tell me how you started quilting! A winner will be picked on Tuesday January 29th.
And for a complete list of all the bloggers who contributed to the book and their blog links, please visit Martingale's blog here. And you stand another chance to win the eBook there too! There you'll see an embarrassing picture of me at Sewing Summit with Katy and Amy. Truly horrifying. (All pictures of myself tend to horrify me.)
Good luck!!!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 231 of 231I cannot remember what made me start to be honest - I was in my teens and had been taught knitting, crochet and embroidery by my mother. She also did dressing making but had never done quilting. Somewhere along the line I must have seen or read something about patchwork - it was a large scale hexagon quilt using paper piecing and the rest as they say is history lol
After getting burned out on crochetng and knitting for decades, I decided last fall to pick up a new hobby/craft. I didnt really care for traditional quilts, but saw a modern quilt in a photo and I was hooked! Made my first quilt in October, on quilts 10,11 and 12 now - in various stages lol.
Congrats!
My little sister bullied me into trying quilting via paper piecing 12 yrs ago after I retired. She was soooo right! I love it! Love your quilts & looking forward to learning more about Modern Quilts!
I saw a quilt (it is not very common here) and I fell in love. I have been quilting ever since...
Thanks for this giveaway, the book looks great!
I love your quilts - I definitely have to make "Lanterns in the City." How I started quilting - I had a beautiful baby boy and decided that I needed to make him a quilt with memories from his early years. I'm still "practicing" to build skills before attempting the all important memory quilt, but I have definitely found a creative outlet that I love. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I started quilting after taking a basic sewing class. I went to my LQS for nicer fabric, and a hobby was born.
When I was a young girl I slept under and very heavy Crazy Quilt that my mother doesn't know what happened to it. Later I bought a partially finnished quilt at a garage sale and finnished it. I was hooked. sewpatsy1
I've seen so many great quilts in various places that I wanted to try it out myself. I've been taking a few classes and teaching myself, and just finished my second quilt.
I read Oh Fransons blog just the once and I was hooked!
I've been looking forward to this book coming out. Thanks for the chance to win!
After my daughter was born, my best friend helped me make her a Halloween costume. My own machine, and a few classes later, I joined a virtual quilting bee and started to quilt. Congrats on the book!

I stumbled upon quilting online nad have been hooked since...

I had always watched my Grandmother make quilt so I guess it was just something I inherited..
Awesome! I would love to win!!
I am off on Monday to buy some solids because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "Lanterns in the City" Thanks for making it! (The book is terrific!)
I just retired and am seriously getting into quilting. Congrats on your quilt and getting published!
Christmas 2009 was all about making our KK's a gift so i made mine a double bed sized quilt. I haven't stopped making them since.
It started when visited the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK as I wanted to buy fabric for making purses and bags. My mum and I fell n love with a Japanese doll quilt pattern and decided to do the pattern together. 3 years on we are still working on it, but since then I've started at least 4 other quilts & have several planned this year.
I started with the group at work and am still a newbie!
A coworker begged to come to my hometown to see quilts. I lived in Lancaster, PA. She dragged me around and next thing you know, we were quilting. Takes outsiders to show you your own hometown sometimes.
I started quilting about 9 years ago and made SOOO many rag quilts for a special little girl that was about to enter my life. How I love her! Thankfully I've branched out from the rag quilt style. I don't think my scissor hand could handle much more clipping ;) even with reverse spring scissors! I'm a 1st generation quilter (well, atleast for the last few generations) and love reading magazines and blogs for ideas and new ways to try things. Love your blog. It always makes me smile. And congratulations! Your quilts are very cute.
I’ve been sewing clothing (mainly for my boys) and bags for about 5 years and decided last year to try quilting. I’ve only done small projects up to this point, but have decided that this I’m going to make bigger quilts this year. Congratulations on having 2 quilts in this book! Thanks for a chance to win!
Please put my name in the hat for the great book drawing! Thanks!
And I have frozen left over oatmeal in portions - then just microwave the next day - just takes a few minutes. Got the idea after buying some frozen at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. When I make steel cut oatmeal I put the oats in at the same time I put in the water - just takes a few minutes with a gas stove - I like the creamy texture that results. Bet you will too!
i made my first quilt for my boyfriend (now husband) but didn't really like it.
after discovering the world of quilt blogs i totally fell in love with quilting and now i just can't stop!
I'm not quite sure. I think it was because I was looking at hand embroidery books in the library and just started looking at the quilting books.
Well, I started quilting about three years ago and I am hopelessly in love. I was inspired by a friend of mine. I would see all the things she was making and the awesome fabric that she was buying and I knew I had to be a part of it. I inherited my grandmother's old sewing machine and with a few tips from my friend and lots of tips from the awesome blogs out there (yours included) I have figured this quilting thing out and I can't stop! I dream about it when I'm sitting at work and I can't wait to get home and play with my mounds of fabric :)
Your work is beautiful and I love to read your blog....thanks for sharing your life with everyone out here!
Would love to own this book!!
I think that your picture looks good.
Love BOTH of your quilts and your blog!!! Thanks for the chance to WIN!!!
I'm just going to buy the book to support all you amazing blogger friends! But I wanted to comment and say YOU ROCK Audrie! I love these quilts, and the attention is WELL deserved!!! xoxoxo
I started 12 years ago.....and picked it up again after a long break. The blogging community has inspired me to join the circle again!
Many years ago I wandered into an Eleanor Burns lecture where she discussed making a log cabin quilt. I was so intrigued, I bought her Quilt in a Day log cabin book before leaving and the next day made a small quilt for my daughter who was born two weeks later. I sure got hit by the quilting bug real hard. My most recent quilt was for my daughter's daughter. And there have been countless quilts in between. soparkaveataoldotcom
