Catching Up... And A New Addiction

I finally got caught up on my Bee Beautiful blocks! I've been so scattered for the last couple of months that I'd completely forgotten about my December blocks for Stephanie. Thankfully she was very understanding, and I promised I'd have them done by Monday.

It's Monday today, right? Good. Phew :)

And while I was talking to my sisters on WhatsApp, they were talking about how our Mum's completely addicted to Boggle on my little sister's iPad while visiting her in Australia. She now wants Dad to get her an iPad so she can continue her addiction.

I said to my sisters I'd thought about getting the Boggle app, and about two seconds later, found myself installing it.

My entire morning's shot, and my afternoon looks sketchy, at best. Sigh.

Really, really didn't need this...

Bee Blocks

A few blocks I've made for the Bee Beautiful quilting bee :)

May was Penny's month, and she asked us to make this gorgeous tulip block. You just know it's going to be a stunning quilt! I'm not a big fan of machine applique so of course I procrastinated and procrastinated till it was June and I still hadn't done it. Oops. Not a good team leader.

But it wasn't half as tedious as I thought it'd be and I'm glad I did something out of my comfort zone. That's the whole point of being part of a bee, right?

And this month is Julie's month. See I made up for being tardy last month by being super early this month!

She bravely cut into her Neptune stash (I still can't believe she did it) and we all get to play with it. The solids are Kona Crush, which I've never used before and now want to have yards and yards of so I can just squish and pet them.

And Julie asked that we make a tiny little siggy block. My handwriting on fabric needs a lot of work but as long as it's legible, I'm okay with it.

Bee Blocks Received!

The postie brought me goodies! I got more of my Bee Beautiful blocks in the mail :)

They are absolutely stunning!!! I love love love them! I love that almost everyone stuck a piece of their own fabric in there. Oh it's going to be a gorgeous quilt :)

I just feel bad that almost everyone's hating putting the block together and are probably plotting my demise. But looking at the blocks makes the guilt disappear somewhat... ahem.

Oh, the other day I went to Borders and look what I saw... Julie's quilt on the front cover of Quilts and More!!! I grabbed it and kind of started screaming "OH MY GOD! IT'S JULIE'S QUILT ON THE COVER OF THE MAGAZINE! OH MY GOOOOOOD!!! LOOK HONEY! IT'S JULIE!".

My poor husband was so embarrassed and kept shushing me, telling me I'm so damn loud. I know I'm loud. Loud is necessary in letting people know that Julie's on the cover.

And then I embarrassed him more by taking many pictures.

Just Wondering...

How is the postal service losing money when there's quilting bees?

I heard a lady behind me gasp when the printer threw up my receipt lol

Bee Beautiful February Blocks

February is Rachel's month and she chose to do a string quilt to use up her scraps. So far the Bee Beautiful members have decided to make scrap quilts (okay, so it's only been January and February, but it's a good start!)... even I intend to use scraps for mine this April.

There were enough scraps for two blocks, so that's what I ended up making. It's so fun to do... I first did paper piecing last month with my other quilting bee, Tethered Threads, so I was absolutely thrilled to do more.

Bee Beautiful January Block

I can't believe I succumbed to the awesomeness of Rebekah's scraps and made the block already! Haha! Hope she likes it!

I added a tiny bit of my own fabric but it's mostly hers. Amazing fabrics that I'd never think to put together. And for me, that's the whole point of a quilting bee -- to try new things and learn from other quilters.

There's a tonne of left over fabric so there'll be another block coming, I'm pretty sure of it.

The Bee Beautiful Virtual Quilting Bee

A couple months ago, I received an email from Julie about starting a quilting bee with her. I didn't have much to think about... the answer was YES!

So Bee Beautiful was born, and we went about making a list of like-minded quilters whose work we admired and wanted to work with. I was delighted that it didn't take us too long at all to get ten people to agree to join us :)

January is our first month, and brave Rebekah stepped up to the plate and volunteered for it. I just received her fabric today and I do believe I squealed when I opened the package!

I'm so excited to begin because she chose a fantastic block from one of my favourite books, Patchwork Style by Suzuko Koseki (I believe it's known by another name in Japanese). I've wanted to make this quilt for my own bed for a while, so perhaps after making this block, I'll finally muster up the strength to start it.

My month is April and I've already changed my mind half a dozen times about what block I'd like to have everyone make. Yeah, I'm a dork.

So over the course of this year, I'll share the blocks I'll be making for the wonderful quilters in this little bee of ours. Let the block-making begin! :)
