Quilts For Charley & Owen

The quilts for the twins are finished! It was a little bit of a challenge working with incorporating clothing into the quilt. It was the first time I'd ever done it, and it's definitely not my favourite thing to do, but I like the sentimental value of it.

I chose to use cottons, flannels and ribbons for tabs because the client wanted lots of texture. She showed me her daughter's quilt, which was a very simple patchwork quilt with large squares. So I went with the patchwork design, and made little log cabins with the clothing in the centre.

Here's the front of Charley's quilt...

And here's Owen's :)

I grew up with twin sisters, so I understand that twins need some kind of individualisation. I put their first initial on the bottom right corner of each quilt so they'd know which was theirs.

The back of Charley's quilt...

And the back of Owen's quilt.

I put the initials of both boys with their parents' initials on the back, just to personalise it further. The initials stand for Ashley, Matt, Charley and Owen :)

(The hubs wanted to know what company AmCo was. Dork.)

I tried to integrate the clothing into the quilt as best I could without them sticking out like a sore thumb. But not so similar that they'd just fade into the patchwork blocks.

I'm delivering the quilts today and then they'll go live with the boys in Ohio later this week :) I hope they like them!

I love how you framed the clothing so that it fit in with your quilting fabrics. Great idea!

You did an awesome job. Kids' clothing is so sentimental, I bet they will really cherish these. WOW!!!

These quilts came out so sweet and full of life! I love the idea of tabs included on the front. I've made little tag-a -dilong squares with ribbon and other trims on the sides but it's so clever to include them on a baby quilt!
