As I sat at home, pouting about missing out on Spring Market, I flicked through the pictures on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, and came across a quilt that was hung up in the Free Spirit booth. I don't know remember where I saw that picture exactly, but I think the quilt and its fabrics were by Erin McMorris. (If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please tell me!!)
Anyway, I loved the way it showed off fabrics so effortlessly, and I had a bunch of scraps and strips laying on my cutting table, so I thought I'd play around with them. And out came this quilt! Someone asked me last week how I work... Umm, this is how lol!
I rarely put borders on quilts, but it seemed like this one needed it. Plus my inspiration picture had borders, so I thought I'd go with it. Initially, I was going to use Kona Jade as the outer border, but then I thought that'd pull too much attention away from the centre, so I went with a black sketch instead. Muuuuuch better!
I used the Kona Jade on the back with a piece of Kona Lime (I think?), and quilted it very simply in a large grid. I used white Aurifil thread because I love how it does a beautiful job without taking away from the quilt. The binding is more black sketch to extend the border and not detract from the centre of the quilt.
