Scraps Are My Weak Spot

Quilts with little tiny, scrappy squares make my heart flutter. I think it's the crazy combination of colours that are my favourite bit. I fell head over heels for the Scrap Vomit quilt, and I finished sewing the top of that one in three days. Yikes.

Then my evil friends all over Instagram and Twitter started making the Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt. FACE PALM. I have no self-control, so obviously, I got sucked in too. Completely, and utterly sucked in. I blame them all. Horrible, horrible friends.

Ah, maybe they're not so horrible after all. Look at the pretty!!!

I know it's supposed to be all kinds of scrappy and haphazard, but I decided to place the darkest fabric in each block right in the middle. And include a yellow fabric in every block too. Still looks scrappy but slightly more cohesive. I'm so in love with the blocks, so in love with how they come together... seriously, so much fun. If you haven't already, JOIN US! You know you want to ;)

I've planned on doing 36 blocks and I've got eight more to go (there's only 20 shown in the first picture). I'm SO tempted to make it bigger for our bed though. No no, just 36. I think. Goddammit I'm fickle (I totally typed that with a 'u'... rude AND nonsensical! HAHAHA!).

Anyway, if you do want to join in, the tutorial is here, and there's also a Flickr group for you to post your pictures to! And hashtag #scrappytripalong on Instagram and Twitter! :)

Absolutely great! Love your idea of keeping the dark fabric in the same place in each block and also having yellow running through all the blocks. It looks lovely!

Ack! Audrie, you are an enabler of the highest order. Halfway through my own Scrap Vomit and now my fingers itch to play with this one as well--thanks!

Audrie, this is amazing! Any helpful hints or tips when those of us teetering, finally fall into the abyss?

Wow I love it! The yellow Lizzy House pearl bracelet is my favorite I can pick out, it just goes so well with the blue shades you're using.

It's gorgeous! Kinda glad I'm not on instagram - I do NOT have time/space to add another project right now…! Is there a vaccine? :-)

I love it! But I'm not going to start one, not for a while at least. I am finishing things. :)

THREE DAYS?!?! I'm still collecting bits of fabric for my Scrap Vomit quilt and it's been....I'm not going to go look at how long it's been.

I really like the way your Scrappy Trips looks with those dark bits in the middle. My Bargello came out all wonky because the dark fabrics fell in weird places.

I so have the same heart palpitataions when I see a super scrappy quilt...I just love it so much. And I'm counting. Because I have ONE MORE project to finish before I start my own Scrap Vomit quilt. Be still my heart...

Where is spell check when I need it?! I'm making up words I guess.

I love that you placed the darker fabric in the middle of each block. I think it adds cohesiveness to the srappiness:) I am going to try to do the same-any suggestions???

So, yours is beautiful and I LOVE the dark "in the middle", exactly where did you place the dark in the 6 strips, or does it matter? Curious because with 6 there is no middle. I want mine to have some control like yours.
