A Quilt For Mum

I've finally finished my Mum's quilt! It's only taken forever... sorry Mum!!! First of all, it's brown. That's it. That's all I got. Brown is my nemesis. My brain goes to mush when I see it.

Unless it's chocolate. The food, not the colour.

I don't really hate brown per se... it's just not my favourite colour to work with. But with the greys and creams, it's actually quite pretty. I just hope Mum likes it... Mum, if you don't, just keep it to yourself. And keep the quilt in a closet and only pull it out when I visit, 'kay? Thanks.

It really started out as a quilt for Dad... then Mum chimed in that she wanted one too... then Dad said he had a free (read: slightly stolen from the hospital) blankie so he didn't need one... so then it was just Mum who wanted one. It's a wonder I've turned out to be such a normal and wonderful and modest person with all this crazy around me. Seriously.

I ended up quilting it in a loose cross hatch because I didn't think Mum wanted anything too fussy or too much quilting on her quilt. It's all nice and squishy now, so hopefully she'll like that. The backing is a Moda wide back... I think it's from the 3 Sisters' Papillion collection? Or not? I can't remember. I do know that the binding's a French General from the Maison de Garance collection though! Yay me! My brain does work! Sometimes!

Anyway, it's off to Singapore soon. Really funny that it's going to a tropical island where Mum has to probably turn the air-conditioning on to use it :)

I like the brown! It's so different, but looks so warm.

I am so glad you are feeling better. I enjoy reading your blog so much--you write well and I like your quirky sense of humor. BLUE IS BLEU and a good cup of coffee make a great start to the morning.

I love brown - think it is seriously underrated as a quilt colour - and this quilt is all the more richer for being brown.

I am with you on the color brown, I bet I would be hard pressed to find more than a few pieces in my stash. But this is a lovely quilt Audrie, warm and inviting.

I'm not a big fan of brown either, except the chocolate food of course, but this is nice. Very nice, pretty even. You Mum will love it for that reason And that you made it for her.

Fyi the blankie was stolen from a biz class flight, not a hospital (^__^)

I'm not really a big fan of brown, but this really works. The colours is very traditional, but the block has a real modern feel to it. I think it looks fab!

The quilt is beautifula and so well made! Dunno whether I want to use it as it looks so nice, wouldn't want to spoil it!!

Thank you for all the effort and time you put into to it.

See you soon, and God bless.

You guys, browns are gorgeous. Anyway, it's not brown; it's
earth, soil, copper, bronze, cappuccino, espresso, coffee, chocolate, Cocoa, tan, Auburn, Caramel, chestnut, mahogany, walnut, toffee, hazelnut, java, hedgehog, coconut, raisin.....see, I could go on and on forever. If I am looking for motivation to use a certain colour, I look at paint chips (on line, not dragging home 3000 of those itty-bitty bits of paper...) eg. "Raisin....As power-packed as a chocolate covered raisin, this super-saturated shade of brown has a warm yellow undertone. Use it to add drama to a space".....Just makes me want to go out and buy some.....fabric that is!
I LOVE THAT QUILT AND THOSE COLOURS!

No surprise I love your colour choices! The silver really lights up the brown both of which I love but never really thought about together. Again, you've inspired me to try something! I knew your Mum would love it, after all YOU made it!!
