35

I turned 35 today... well I was born in Singapore, so I technically turned 35 12 hours ahead of EST. So the only thing to do is claim a total of 36 hours as my birthday. It's the only logical thing to do, right?

So anyway, it's my birthday and I'll sew what I want to!

My Grandma's Star templates arrived this afternoon and I immediately broke open the parcel and got to work! I'd been itching to get my hands on this template ever since I got the Sew Charming book eons ago.  I hesitated because I'd found the templates on an Australian site, and as much as I want to support my adopted home, the shipping was pretty ridiculous.

So last week while flicking through the book again, I happened to see that there was a shop in the US that stocked them! Lo and behold, the shop is in CT! What the what?! I'm just thrilled to have the templates and am ignoring the fact that I'm kind of dumb. You should too.

Ahh so pretty :)

I sewed the entire block on my machine so it came together very quickly. There are tiny holes on the template where you can mark where the points should meet, and that helps a great deal. There are a lot of y-seams, which can be tedious but it's not too terrible, honestly.

Has anyone else ever tried their hand at sewing hexagons on their machine? Or has anyone sewn this block before?

Can you reveal the name of the quilt shop in CT where you bought your templates? I'd love to get a set of templates to make this block, it's beautiful. deanie dot dreams at gmail dot com

Super fantastic Happy Birthday! You don't look a day older than me! :) Actually, you look younger than me and according to my classmates, I look 26. Fools!

The block is beautiful! I haven't tried hexes by machine and I avoid y-seams like the plaque. Apparently there are easy ways to do them but I haven't found the will to learn that skill yet.

Happy birthday! I've only done hexies by hand; would definitely need a tutorial to do them any other way. Your block is gorgeous. From your picture, I would have said you're about 10 years younger! I'm jealous. ;-)

I've not done hexies by machine but this looks awesome! Happy Birthday TO YOU!

First - Happy Happy Birthday to you! Hope it was an awesome 36 hours of stitching and yummy food.

Second - WOW, that's some awesome y-seam work on your machine. Haven't tried it myself, seems a bit fiddly and tricky.
