Search For A New Iron (AKA Pulling Teeth)

Irons. The love and bane of every quilter. When they work, it's the best. When they start misbehaving, leaking or not steaming up right, you do everything you can not to shoot it with a bazooka.

I bought a new iron earlier this year when our Rowenta decided to stop working after only two years. And it was made in Germany, so it was extra annoying. I bought a GE iron from Walmart because 1. I'm a cheapskate, and 2. It had one of those buttons where you could change the heat setting and / or turn it off without unplugging. Excellent when you're quilting.

The GE worked fairly well... until I dropped it on the floor. Wood floor's fine. Iron, not so much. It heats up and all, but the steam function seems to have gone on a permanent vacation.

And then Amy posted about searching for a good iron, which spurred me to go get myself a new iron that worked properly.

With my Bed, Bath & Beyond 20% coupon (told you I was a cheapskate) in hand, I bought the Black & Decker Digital Advantage one. I looked up reviews on my iPhone (what the hell did I do before I got my iPhone, I will never know...) and this one had brilliant reviews. And at $39.99, with 20% off, I couldn't complain.

(By the way, I looked up the same iron on Amazon.com and it says the original price is $64.99, discounted to $39.99. What kind of bullshit is that?!?!)

I ironed ten of the hub's work shirts last night and it worked beautifully. I can only imagine it'll do a lovely job with my quilt blocks! :)

** This is not a paid advertisement. I'm just really, really thrilled about having a good iron.  **

I <3 my digital advantage! If I really get going with the steam for a looooong time (like when I'm ironing a good chunk of new fabric I just washed), it will sometimes go a little goofy (i.e. beep and change languages on me) like the water gets in the electronics or something, but if I just let it dry out, it's fine. I really like it!

Haha! Good to know - I've always got my eye out for a good iron.

Also, I don't think I could live without my iPhone at this point. I once had to go 42 hours in a 3G dead zone and nearly got the shakes. It wasn't pretty.
