After my last inane post, I had a few requests for the orange cake recipe so I thought I'd post it :)
My husband reckons the cake tastes a lot like Fruit Loops. I'm not sure... it possibly does but I haven't had a Fruit Loop in over a decade so my memory's a little fuzzy. So if you do end up making this, please let me know if you think it does taste like Fruit Loops to you. Or not. Thanks in advance :)
Orange cake1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
Zest of 2 oranges
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
Glaze:
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup sugar
- Preheat oven to 350F and prepare a bundt pan.
- Cream the butter and sugar, and beat till light. Beat in the yolks one at a time, then add the zest.
- Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the orange juice.
- Beat the egg whites till stiff and fold into the batter gently.
- Pour batter into the bundt pan and bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until the sides shrink away from the edge of the pan.
- Cool for 10 minutes, turn the cake out onto a plate and drizzle the glaze over the cake while it's still warm.
- Serve the cake when cooled.
- Glaze: Combine the orange juice and sugar in a small saucepan and simmer gently till light syrup forms, about 5 to 10 minutes.

I've never heard of or tasted orange cake, so I am definitely going to try this recipe! It looks very moist and sounds delish. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
