Blast From The Past

I don't have much from my childhood. My mother was a fan of throwing things out without asking. I still give her grief for throwing out my entire Adventures of Tin Tin collection, and all my Smurfs and Strawberry Shortcake figurines. I loved Apple Dumplin' best.

For some reason, Mum saved this. My first quilt... I'd say it's about 30 (ahem) years (ahem) old.
It's tiny and has been washed so many times that it's amazing it looks as good as it does. It's extremely simple (basically just a panel) and absolutely worn thin but I love it dearly.

Hello Strawberry Shortcake and Huckleberry Pie :) See that strawberry house in the background? I had that house and it held all my precious things. Apple Dumplin' slept in there most nights.

Ruffles! Clearly my love for ruffles began at a young age.

My husband said I ought to make a Strawberry Shortcake quilt... Hrm I don't know. Maybe in the future when I have a little girl to make it for.

this is completely random, but I have a bunch of Strawberry Shortcake flannel (at least 1/4 yds, maybe 1/2 yds) for a rag quilt that I never made - would you be interested? Otherwise, it will probably get dropped off to Goodwill since i'm moving soon...

My mum chucked a bunch of things, too. I got over most of it but the books thing.... we still give her grief about the books. Glad your mum saved this though - it's nice to have a few things and who didn't love that gang of little smelly people?

what a great quilt to have to remind you of those memories long ago - I too had all of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls stuffed into a large plastic strawberry - I wonder what ever happened to those? ;)

and loved your photos of the quilt from different angles... seeing that corner shot reminded me that my mom always bound her quilts with curved corners just like that. ;) Perhaps b/c she didn't know how to make a mitered corner? I so wish she were still living so I could show her what I know and to also thank her for the Strawberry Shortcake dolls ;)

oh and one year I wanted to dress up as SSC for Halloween but she was sold out so I had to go as Lemonmirage instead..... and will never forget every time I put that plastic face on how my mom would get so tickled at me ;)

Thanks for helping me remember that ;) Love from Texas! ~bonnie
