Avalon Quilt

I've been remiss. I forgot to show you guys this quilt I made ages ago!

My friend's mum saw this quilt made from Lotta Jansdotter's Echo with Elizabeth Hartman's Avalon pattern (if you're after the pattern, it appeared in the International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene 2011 magazine... sorry!) and wanted to know if I could make her a queen-sized one, and I happily obliged :)

She wanted it in the same fabrics, but because I could only get my hands on very few Echo prints, we got fabrics from a couple of her other collections since they all work well together.

This was a really fun quilt to work on... large blocks (15" x 18"!) and the only thing that needed planning was whenever I'd used directional fabrics. You wouldn't want the prints to go every which way, now would you? But even that wasn't tough at all :) Loved making this quilt for sure.

I had Laura quilt it with a similar pattern to what was shown in the inspiration photo -- something of a meandering grid. And as usual, it came out beautifully!

We used a grey Moda Dottie wide back for the backing... It's one of my favourite backings and the hand is just so yummy and smooth. I've got one in an obnoxious lime green that I can't wait to use on my own quilt one day heehee! The binding and the black throughout the blocks are a Timeless Treasure sketch in dark grey / black. I figured I'd use that instead of a solid black so it's got some texture to it since there was so much solid white for the background.

I'm so pleased with how this turned out, and I heard from my friend that when her mother received it, she threw it on the bed and started rolling around on it lol! A woman after my own heart!

I love that pattern. I purchased the magazine for the pattern and hope to make one someday. I'm trying to find the perfect pattern to use with my collection of Doe and other CF prints for my own bedroom quilt. Now you have me pondering Avalon. I love your version in Lotta. LJ prints follow closely behind CF in my book.

Absolutely love that quilt! Lotta fabrics are my all time favourites and so are most quilts made with her fabrics!
