Modern Baby Blog Book Tour Giveaway!!!

*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED ***

Shut the front door! I'm in another book!!! And I have two quilts in this book too! I know, I'm just showing off at this point... Hahaha! Modern Baby is a really fun book with beautiful quilts, and I'm just thrilled that I'm a part of it :)

Both quilts of mine are bright and cheery, which is really my favourite thing to do when making baby quilts!

The first quilt I have in the book is called Floating Pyramid because... it looks like... a pyramid that is... floating. I am terrible at naming quilts, people.

This quilt was insanely fun to cook up, yet soooo frustrating at the same time. From the sketching, to deciding how to treat each coloured triangle, and finally figuring out how the heck to make those scrappy triangles in a way that made sense to others! I just love how it came out, especially because the triangles look like they're almost shimmering away. The neutral background is not something I gravitate towards, but I thought it worked so well with this quilt instead of just a flat, stark white background.

You guys might've seen Vertigo on the blog before... it's a really fun quilt where you can play with colours, values and hues. I've made this three times now (here's the second one that now belongs to my sister's bestie's baby) haha! Super easy and the fun lies in picking your colours! When I first made this quilt, it was really just me messing around with the fabric. The thing about improv is that you're not quite sure if it's going to work out, or how it's going to look. But thankfully, I managed to make the quilt how I'd drawn it up in my mind. Phew! I'm really looking forward to seeing what people do with this quilt... the possibilities are endless!

So, giveaway time!!!!!

You'll have 14... count them, 14... chances to win an eBook copy of Modern Baby! Just leave a comment and tell me a fun story about a baby or when you became a mother... or anything! You know me and my love of randomness :) I'll pick a winner on Tuesday April 30!

And after you're done entering the giveaway here, you can go check out my fellow co-authors on their blogs! Here's the blog tour schedule :)

I'm particularly fond of Floating Pyramid. Though the colored one is what I noticed first, I love the looks of the background with it's pyraminds.

I remember babysitting my niece overnight when she was teething, and neither one of us got any sleep. In a few months, she will have her first child. I look forward to making many baby quilts for her kids.

Both of my children were early talkers. My son spoke clearly and had amazing pronunciation for a toddler. On day, a few months before he turned 3 I picked him up at nursery school and he was upset. He told me, "You've been teaching me all wrong. You told me the food we eat is called spaghetti, but all the kids in my class say Passgetti. I feel like a fool."
I had a hard time convincing him that his pronunciation was correct.

I love your bright and beautiful quilts: so fun!! I became a mom in April of 1989: when we brought my daughter home our wisteria was in full bloom, and every year when it blooms I think of that wonderful homecoming!! So good to be a mom!!

Ashleigh @ Rocks and Chickens said...

Holy cow! Those are some beautiful quilts!

So...I can't think of any good baby stories, but I do have an almost baby story.

I taught Pre-K for a year right out of college (it was special, I don't teach anymore, lol). I had this one little boy who was the poster child for ADHD, he was all over the place all the time. He was a hilarious kid.

Also, he didn't recognize his own name because his mom only called him Sexy.

Yeah, you know where this is going.

So, I had all these baby dolls for the kitchen center in my classroom. And this one, the little white boy baby, had red hair and red overalls and I thought to myself, "Man, this baby looks like Chucky. But four-year-olds won't know who Chucky is..." (Yes, I was an idiot. I'll just blame it on being 22.)

But up until two days before Christmas break, miraculously nothing happened with this baby. Then, while I was trying to finish assessments with some of the kids and the rest were in centers, I hear blood curdling screaming across the room. I look around expecting to see some kind of altercation, but no, "Sexy" (I won't use his real name here), is running across the room, baby in hand, screaming "It's the CHUCKY BABY! It's the CHUCKY BABY!"

And I'm sitting there, thinking to myself, "Well, crap. Not sure what to do here."

Before I can do anything, "Sexy" has turned around, run back to the kitchen center, screaming "I'm gonna KILL it! I'm gonna CUT ITS HEAD OFF!"

Well, crap. Now I really got to do something.

And I get there and this child has slapped this poor baby face-down on the table and has proceeded to attempt to saw its head off with a plastic play knife (which incidentally "disappeared" after this incident).

And I look at him and say, "Give me the Chucky baby."

Which he responds to by screaming/laughing "It's alive! It's alive!" over and over again.

So I say, "Say goodbye to the Chucky baby. He's going back in the box."

To which this child, waggles his fingers and says "Bye Bye Chucky baby" in the creepiest kid horror movie voice ever.

I had to give the Chucky baby to another teacher. I was too tempted to use it as a behavior modification device. You know, "Chucky baby is watching you. You better behave." I decided that was inappropriate. ;) lol

Lisa England said...

Well, I can't top the Chucky baby story -- too funny! When my son was born he was 10 pounds and had a full head of dark hair that stuck straight out. In those days they would put all the babies in the nursery for everyone to look at during hospital visiting hours. So my husband and many of our friends and family were standing at the window lookiing at him. Several of the people there to see other babies were pointing at our baby and saying "look at that one, he's full grown!". My husband thought it was hilarious.

I love the modern look to the new baby quilts! My mom makes a new quilt for each grand- or great-grandchild these days and is always looking for new and fun patterns. This would be a great gift for her!

I love your pyramid quilt-and how the name says it all!
One of the great things about having little children around is that it was always a great excuse to have a cupboard full of "craft" items...I could get my fix of making things while playing with the children at the same time...and any excuse to make clothes for the dollies...!!!

As a super busy new Mom and volunteer I was running to a meeting at the bank. I ran through McDonald's drive-thru on my way with my 18-month-old in the back seat. As I was staving and stuffing my burger into my face I hear this little voice from the back seat say hestitatingly, "try... your burger?" It was his first phrase. So cute! So I had to share even though I really wanted to eat the whole cheeseburger myself.

Last week I was talking to my 3 year old granddaughter on the phone. She was telling me about the kittens. Then I said "I guess they'll be going to their new homes soon." There was silence, then she said she wanted to get off the phone. I could hear her in the background "Are the kittens going to new homes?" "Is Poco (the mother cat) going to a new home?" Whoops!

Fun story about a baby? Here's one...when my best friend had her first baby, her own littlest brother was still in grade school. After he saw the baby for the first time, I asked him what he thought. Without missing a beat he said, "She's REALLY cute! She looks a lot like me!"

A baby story, my friends kids were saying "Oh my god" a no-no. A little while later they picked up "Dang it" also a bit of a no-no. Then they mixed the two......"Oh my dang it" It was too funny to be discouraged! It still gets used by family, kids, and friends (myself)

I love both of your quilts and am super excited about this book! Not really a baby story, but on Tuesday my son, who is now 8, pitched in a Little League game for the first time. He has been playing baseball for 3 years and has done a million things I have been proud of, but seeing him out there on the mound was just amazing. How did that little baby I held not so long ago turn into this strong and capable boy? Needless to say it was a proud mama moment! :-)

CitricSugar said...

I'm glad the world has finally realized how awesome you are. :-)

My nephew has taken to parroting things we tell him to say, which is great, but if you whisper it to him, he will also whisper it, which makes it trickier to make fun of Grandpa...

I want this book so I'll share the story of Henry's birth. I had been waiting and waiting patiently for baby #2 to arrive. Having been 4 cm. dilated for a month, I thought the moment was coming much sooner than it did. Just one hour past his due date, Henry decided to kick it into overdrive. I woke up with my first contraction at 1:10am. I took a shower to figure out if it was real labor. When signs pointed towards go, we called my mom who spend over to be home with my daughter. We left for the hospital at 2:15am, arrived at 2:37am and I immediately needed to push as soon as we got to the intake table. Still in my jeans and sweater, doctors and nurses came a running. Henry was born just a few pushes later at 2:50am. Phew! The most crazy hour and 40 minutes of my life!!!! Surely that deserves a book :)

I started quilting when I was 6 months pregnant with my first child (a boy). One of the first quilts I finished was for him (of course). He slept with it and dragged it around the house constantly! When he was 4, I finally had to put it away because the edges were so tattered. He had plenty more "blankies" by then and that quilt is tucked away for safe keeping and memories now!
I love the Modern Baby book! So many cute quilts!

I like that pyramid quilt.
Baby story. We have 2 girls, 5 years apart. Both girls had the same due date~ Sept 5th.
In the end one was delivered early and the other one didn't want to make an appearance and had to be coaxed....
Good job really, because sharing a birthdate would be something else for them to fight about. :)

I made my first baby quilt about 3 years ago for a friend's baby girl. It was my first venture into something bigger than a pot holder project and at that time the idea felt daunting. I have just finished a single bed quilt for my little niece and can't wait to tackle something even bigger.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I made three "baby boy" quilts when I was pregnant and yet I didn't even know I was having a boy (I didn't find out the sex until birth). Luckily I did have a boy. That is an example of a quilter living on the edge!! :-P

PS: Sandra above ^^ my baby's due date was also Sept 5th, but he was born 3 weeks early in August. :-)

My beautiful curly-red-headed baby girl said her first word at the tender age of 3 months! True, I tell not a lie. She was lying on my Roses on Lattice Quilt in nothing but a cloth nappy with her ankles crossed and her hands clasped over her little chest, looking all innocent and cheruby, when, I don't know, she must have burped or something, but the word which came out of her little mouth sounded, clear as a bell, for all the world like "Bugger"! I was rolling around in stitches.
She is 16 now, actually I might just share this memory with her tonight. Thanks for making me remember it.
BTW I used to work with your sister at UWA. Give her my love.

Here's a true fact about babies .... they turn into toddlers WAAAAYYY too fast! I loved everything about my babies but my best friend was a nervous wreck around hers and couldn't wait until they could walk and talk. I felt sad for her but she thought I was nuts. To each their own I guess but I still tear up when I smell a new baby because it brings back such sweet memories.

I don't have a fun story about a "baby", but when my "babY" was 2-3 years old, I took her to the Detroit Zoo and they have three frogs that are in a triangle facing inwards (their faces were facing each other). She almost ripped my hand off and she started running towards it and ripping off her clothes until her undies because she thought that was ok to do. I was young, embarrassed, by myself, and it was hard to get her clothes on because she was throwing a fit.

HAHA>. I totally forgot about that until now. Of course it was 100 degrees out and crowded that day. I had to drag her away and shortly after that we went home.

I really don't have much to say about baby's except they are a great way to begin. Don't like baby quite sized quilts however. I make all my quilts between baby and twin size. Sort of toddler sized. That way they have less chance of going to goodwill or the dog.

We are expecting baby #8 in August, so I have quite a few stories! But the one I thought of first was when my eldest was 6 months or so (she was old enough to be sitting up), she was sitting on the changing table/dresser and threw up. My first instinct was to catch it with my hands and, thankfully, she didn't keep going. I then thought to myself, "Wow. I guess I've really made it as a mother. I caught her throw up without throwing up myself." Ha ha!! If I only knew....

When I was pregnant, my nephew was laying in my lap (5 months old) just looking up at me, then our kitten jumped up on the bed and my nephew kicked him off! It was too funny and we kind of got it on video.
