Single Girl Baby Quilt

Happy new year, you guys! We've never been big on celebrating new year's eve, and this year was even more quiet than normal. Just the two of us at home... me fondling fabric, the hubs fondling his iPad... same old, same old. Did everyone have a good time ringing in the new year?

Anyway, I'd put a picture of this quilt in my year-end wrap-up because I couldn't leave it out... it's one of my favourites. When I mail it off, I'm sure there'll be tears. The postie will be confused, I will be bawling, everyone will struggle not to make eye contact with me... it'll be a hot mess.

This vision of pretty is for a dear cousin of mine, Ryan. Him and his wife, Somer, are expecting their first baby (a little girl!) sometime in the new year, and I absolutely had to make them a quilt. My sister told me nothing too pinky... so I went with the colours of the rainbow. Ryan's family is hilarious fun -- my aunt and uncle are two of the silliest people you could ever hope to meet and I loooove them -- so it made sense to make a fun quilt.

I picked out 31 prints out of my stash, cut the little pieces and two evenings later, I had a baby quilt! Whoever thinks this is a difficult pattern needs to rethink that. The only tedious part for me was cutting, and even that wasn't too terrible at all. And no, Denyse isn't paying me to say this hehe

The only thing I changed on the pattern were the borders -- I added a tiny border to the sides so that the rings would look like they're really floating. I was going to use a cream print for the background, but I didn't think the colours would pop quite as nicely. Plus I knew I wanted to use a pink stripe binding, so of course I went with Kona Aqua. Ahhh Aqua, how I love thee... let me count the ways...

The backing is a Moda Dottie (I should just give up and buy bolts of it...) and I think it looks so pretty with the aqua and pink. Let's face it, it looks pretty with pretty much anything and everything. I quilted it super simply because I don't want to fuss too much with the lovely curves.

It'll be on its way to Australia soon... I hope they'll like it :)

Audrie! It's awesome. Scrappy and fun, not too girly and that aqua is so gorgeous with everything.

That's so lovely. Reminds me that I have to make a baby quilt for a girl due in the middle of Feb (and yeah, it will take me that long to get it ready...!)Happy new year from someone else who doesn't celebrate going from Dec 31st to Jan 1st.

I think I may have asked you this when you made your big single girl, but are the rings appliquéd down? This is perfect for a wee one
