Love Found A Way

Two old friends of mine whom I've known since high school in Singapore reunited last year, got married and are now expecting a baby! Say WHAT?!?! They were the cutest couple when we were in school... and it always struck me as odd that they broke up when we all left school. You know when two people just look like they should be together? That was Alicia and Dexter.

When I was living and studying in Australia, I walked into the newsroom one day (I was a Journalism major) and found Alicia sitting there. Of all the places in the world, there she sat. We lost touch after she left Australia but found each other again on Facebook a few years ago. Oh Facebook. As annoying as you are, you're useful for a few things still. And with Facebook, we kept track of each other's lives. I have Dexter on Facebook too so I knew where he was. Suddenly, I started seeing them in each other's photos and I hoped like hell those two found their way back to each other.

And they did. He put a ring on it and they moved to Copenhagen for his job. A few months ago, I noticed pictures of her little belly poking out. She's tiny, so either she swallowed a watermelon whole, or she had a baby baking in there.

As soon as she confirmed it (I wasn't about to ask a woman if she was pregnant even if it was completely obvious) I asked Alicia if I could please make her baby boy a quilt. She said she was going to contact me but baby brain made her forget. I wanted to gift it to her anyway, so I'm kind of glad she forgot. She let me choose colours, pattern etc. She did ask if I could maybe make it gender neutral so that if they had a second one and it was a girl, that they wouldn't have to bother me for another quilt. Aww silly goose.

Anyway, because they'd moved to Denmark, I immediately thought of crosses. I didn't want to do something so obvious like a red and white cross quilt (coincidentally, red and white are also the colours of the Singapore flag haha) so I went full blown colour. I love baby quilts that are just saturated with colour, don't you?

I went a variation of a patchwork quilt where I used Kona Ash (of course) for the crosses to keep them slightly subtle.

For the backing, I used Moda Dottie in teal because I love the colour and also I had a piece exactly the correct size so I decided to go with it hehe The binding is Heath in grey... I love Heath. Love it so muchly.

I hope they like the quilt... Can't wait till they receive it!
