Window Box Gardening

I want to plant window boxes again this year. It's been a while since I've done so and I miss the happy flowers greeting me at the window. I'm probably not going to bother planting a garden on the lawn like I used to because weeding makes me weep. And I'm sure the hubs doesn't miss me screaming bloody murder every time I come across a worm.

I used to plant geraniums and lobelia, but I think I need something that I don't have to deadhead almost every other day. I'm loving the look of the pansies (My MIL has an irrational hatred of pansies so I've never planted them but I'm thinking she needs to just get over it lol!) and how they seem to just grow and fill the space. And I do like the hanging plants around the edges but somehow one or two will die off within a month or so and I hate them looking all uneven. I'll probably attempt planting the lobelia again and hope for the best.

I'm also thinking of tomatoes and lettuce on the back porch because I loooooved the tomatoes we grew a few years ago. I've got myself some new gardening gloves because if I touch dirt, my brain might shut down. Any suggestions on plants that aren't too needy to plant in window boxes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Potato vines and purple hearts are very easy and flow off the pots....also coleus plants are hearty and really pretty colors! Let me know if you want pictures and I'll email them your way!

Yeah, I kill pretty much everything I attempted to grow so my advice is moot.

As for pansies, I love them. If you call them violas or johnny jump-ups, maybe she won't notice? They make lovely sugared flowers for baking....

Good luck with the gardening! I don't have much of a green thumb but I have had really good luck with calibrachoa and you don't need to dead head. They are pretty hearty, too. I think pansies are great.

I love pansies because they look like pissed off little old ladies. Hands down my favorite flower!
