Baby Quilt Redux

So... Once again, I have deviated from my original plan. And it's vastly different too. If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you'll know that I can be pretty fickle. Just accept it as part of my charm :)

I found out that the nursery has dark brown furniture, so I quickly swopped out the white and yellow dot for a brown and white dot. Ahhhh beautiful contrast! :) I went with 45° triangles instead of the 90° ones for the geese.

The brown is facing upwards so that the solids would face down and kind of resemble bunting. I know I'm getting boring with all these triangles but OMG I love them so.

Here's what I have so far. They look a bit odd right now because the rows have been sewn together two by two. I still have another two rows to go before the quilt top's finished. A bit of Chinese thinking came into play when figuring out the layout... Eight down, nine across. Eight means prosperity and nine is longevity in Chinese. Quite a nice thing to wish for a baby, no? :)

I think I'm quite pleased with how it's turning out. Now on how to quilt it... My first two thoughts are to either stitch in the ditch or do horizontal straight lines. Or free motion? Uhh maybe I'll wait to finish it and then drive myself crazy with indecision.

looks great! at least the baby won't be bored with it like he will with the rest of his room!

i say stitch in the ditch, to maintain the buntingy-ness =)

I definitely like the contrast with the brown!

I love it, Audrie! "From my study of child psychology, babies enjoy visual contrast and it's good for their development" - well, at least that's what I remember from college!

Really a great choice, it totally energizes the quilt while still being neutral. I am very impressed and wish I had these design skills Audrie. And I love the symbolism, my granddaughter is half Indian and her room is filled with elephants and other talismans....quite charming.

Stroke of brilliance that brown! As for quilting, keep it simple I reckon ditch stitch or 1/4 inch from the seam

Loving the brown, beautiful! How about quilting a triangle inside each?

Inspired choice. We all like it very much. As far as a quilting motif, baste it well and start with a spiral from the middle. See http://hillscreekquilter.blogspot.com/2012/04/challenge-fun.html for an example.

This is really really beautiful! Quilting it with some big spiral circles would be great for contrast or some long waves so that your bunting is floating in the wind? Anyway, great selection and lovely wishes sewn into it. Cheers! Future Arthritis? on Flickr
