Still happily plugging along with my Single Girl quilt so I thought I'd give you an update!
Oh the cutting. I'm making the queen size, so there seemed to be A LOT of cutting. And as always, I made a chart of what fabric went where because I tend to lose track of what I'm doing halfway through.
The first thing I did was to sew all the arcs together because I hated all the little bits floating around individually. Sewing them together ensures you won't lose them. Because I'm NOT cutting them out again!
I did about 16 of the quarters and then ripped out half of them because I didn't like how they didn't meet at the ends. See how they don't meet? I couldn't stop staring at the ends, so it was just easier to redo them than go completely bananas.
SO much pinning. But worth the effort because you'll have a pretty tough time of it if you don't.
I started this quilt not liking curved piecing at all. It's still not my favourite thing, but I've made my peace with it and we're now friends.
Right now, I have 44 of those quarters done with 20 to go. It really doesn't take long at all... the cutting takes the most time and effort.
And see how all the ends meet now? Ahhhh bliss!
A bit of puckering here and there... I'm so fighting the urge to rip it all out and make it not pucker but that's just psychotic.
I have quite a few more of these background pieces to cut out, and I have to say if you're going to start this quilt (or any quilt with a lot of cutting by hand) to please get yourself a pair of scissors with spring action. Unless you want a claw for a hand, then more power to you.

Shannon and I started this quilt together. I don't know what I was afraid of, to be honest. Sure, it's more tedious and involved than a lot of quilts, but it's worth the work. And if you're afraid of curved piecing, don't be. The beauty of sewing is that you can just rip out your stitches and redo them if you want to.

Wow!!! You are really kicking ass on this quilt. I just got my solid color fabric the other day. Maybe today I can get the templates cut out.
Curved piecing isn't too bad - just takes time and lots of pins.
Are you doing all of your blocks the same?

It's looking great!! I am working on a baby version of the quilt, and hated all the cutting of those little pieces...I am just paper piecing those suckers! Can't wait to try my hand at a queen size next!

Looks so good! I sure understand that pyschotic urge, my friends tease me about mine. I am getting better about it though. These look very good, leave them if they don't wake you up at night!

Gorgeous! I just purchased the pattern and was curious about what material you used to make the templates? Looks sturdier than paper. Thanks for sharing your progress...this will be helpful!
