Country Living

No matter how long I live here, I still pee my pants when I see turkeys in the backyard. I was actually photographing the ones way in the back of the picture, at the end of the neighbour's lawn. Then these other turkeys came from around the corner and scared the shit out of me.

It's a terrible picture but I think I deserve kudos for even opening the damn door. Even if the door's open only wide enough to stick my arm out. The entire time I was shooting them, I kept thinking the second I look down, there'll be a turkey at my feet that'll try to eat my face.

Seriously, if you ever want a laugh, just put me in nature. Hilarity will surely ensue.

P/S: My husband wants everyone to know that he's fully aware that the fallen leaves in our yard makes him look like an asshole. I, on the other hand, really don't care :)

Well, you always make me laugh! How cool are those turkeys! lol Oh and tell ur hubby that he should pat himself on the back for getting at least some of yard raked up and a pretty straight line at that! hahaha

HAHAHA the turkeys aren't too impressed, looks like they're abandoning your leaf-strewn backyard for the neat and tidy neighbour's >=)

let them deal with the feral birds anyhow!

I don't think people get how huge these damn birds are.....I run for the house when I see them in the yard ....their claws alone make me shiver. Yeah tell DH to get the rake out its not too late...I've got tons still to do too.

Merry Christmas

Have you ever seen a turkey fly. Very strange. I'll take the turkeys over the dead mouse in my basement.

You crack me up. And have I told you how much I love the new look of the place? The blog, not the leaves in the yard. Geez. Slacker. (jk)

Husband: If you live far enough in the country to have wild turkeys, then you don't have to rake. Fallen leaves are part of country charm.

You are too funny! We each have our own tolerance levels, right? I had my own encounter with nature a few minutes ago. I just finished rounding up one of our draft horses that got out of the fence (in the dark, of course, and it's freezing outside to boot, and my hubs is not home so I was on my own)... he is always so jumpy when he is out of the pen at night, and it is not so fun trying to repair the fence and corral him, all the while thinking about how it wouldn't be very fun to get run over in the dark by a 2000 pound beast, just because he came up behind/beside me and got startled. So there I am, trying to lure him back in (with food of course) without letting the other horse out. And just when I thought I had him, he got startled by something (most likely a cute, tiny bunny rabbit), whacked me in the back of the head with his huge head/neck, and runs off bucking and kicking! Sheesh! He's as big as a dinosaur to us and he has NO tolerance for nature!!!

I would love to see turkeys running through my yard, though, and I am pretty sure the wee ones would try to catch one. Can't you just see them chasing them all around? Then again, that is probably why they stay away from us.

PS I did notice the definite line drawn in the yard (leaves/no leaves) and felt instantly comforted. Our neighbor is meticulous about his yard and we couldn't care less about ours and it probably drives him nuts. Tell your hubs not to give into the peer pressure. Leave his leaves be if he wants too (let the nature be natural). :)

Like UBee my neighbor is in love with yard work. Us, not so much. I mean, we keep it presentable, but don't mow twice a week (husband and wife tandem mowing sometimes). The wife even said to me recently that the neighborhood was declining because people didn't edge along their driveway often enough (I absolutely fall into that category). All that to say that I won't judge you regarding the leaves. I don't get turkeys in my yard, but I see them nearby quite often. They aren't the brightest looking creatures.

Hahahaha! I love how you can clearly see how neat and tidy your neighbours' garden is and yours is full of leaves.

And turkeys are vicious. Almost as vscious as the swans here in Perth. They have satan in their hearts....

..just this morning I listen to http://www.thisamericanlife.org/
The poultry slam. Now I get the picture to the story. Perhaps you shouldn't listen. The wild turkey story is scarry.
