Quilts For Twinsies

A friend of ours asked if I'd make her twin nieces (who'll be born next month) quilts, and of course I said YES! By the way, she's a twin, and it's her twin who's having the twin girls! What the who?! Madness, I say.

She gave me the colours of the nursery, and asked that the two quilts be different. Having grown up with twin sisters, I know the importance of twins having their own identities. I try very hard not to refer to my sisters 'the twins' but it inadvertently slips out once in a while.

So I ended up with one with stars...

And the other is a churn dash.

I wanted them to be different, yet kind of similar. My friend liked the idea of the solids, which I was very gleeful about because I thought it'd make the quilts rather timeless and not too cutesy. The quilting is a very simple crosshatch to keep the quilt super soft and cuddly.

The backing and binding are the same dark brown dot, which I just love love love! So cute! :)

I delivered the quilts yesterday and my friend absolutely loved them. PHEW! The baby shower's on Saturday so I'm looking forward to finding out if her twin sister loved them too :)

Wow, they are gorgeous! I recently made "twin" quilt tops. I haven't had a chance to quilt them yet. The babies aren't due until early next year. You can see them here...http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2011/11/2-quilt-tops.html

Sooooo pretty! I totally understood your explanation. My aunts are twins and one of them had twins and the other one-her child had twins...hope you followed all that :)

Lovely quilts - the new Mom will be delighted! Actually, being the mother of twins, she'll probably spend the first 12 months or so sleeping under those quilts too! As the Mom of 21 y.o. identical girls, I appreciate the individuality and thought put into your gift.
