I write the dates I work for the next fortnight or so on a little whiteboard in the kitchen so my husband can refer to it without having to ask me when I'm working next. So today in the kitchen...
Hubs: "Umm why did you write down your December work dates?"Me: "HUH? I did NOT!"
Hubs: *Points to whiteboard*
Me: "Oh. Oops. I wrote it my way. The British way. The correct way."
I'm normally good about writing dates the American way (month, then date) but somehow I wrote it the way I'd been writing it for 30 years before moving here (date, then month). Good thing I don't do that with driving...

As a Brit that has been living in Canada for 19 years, I still do stuff the "correct way!"
day-first month-second just makes so much more sense, which is why it's the right way of writing dates!
It's also the military way. Hubs does this ALL the time...used to drive me nuts. Now I find myself doing it too! :-)

wonders that the fifteenth month didn't trip him up and make him pause. I still say you wrote it properly. The internal monologue of '12th of May' sounds so much more pleasant than a curt 'May 12'
