Kaleidoscope Quilt For Modern Relief Japan

Last October I'd gone to Denyse Schmidt's sample sale and saw a stunning kaleidoscope quilt hanging in her studio... and I knew I had to make one! I've finally made one, and I'm donating it to Modern Relief to help raise funds for Japan. I'm love it so, and I hope others will too! :)

(I'd initially pledged this quilt to another cause but they never did get back to me, so I'm donating it to Modern Relief instead!)

A close-up of one of the blocks.

I'd initially FMQ'd spiderwebs in the centres but the second I was done, I hated it with a passion. So out came the seam ripper (Or is it an unpicker, Vicki? Haha!) and it seemed like years before I was done! Very glad I took the time to rip out those stitches because it looks so much better with straight-line quilting. Well, to me, anyway.

As for the borders, I did the same, echoing the edges of the kaleidoscopes.

I'll let everyone know when the quilt's going to be up for grabs on the Modern Relief website.

** Edited to add: The quilt is scheduled to be on the website on April 18, my 34th birthday! **

It's wonderful! You must have done the right thing with ripping out the quilting. The echo lines are just perfect!!

Beautiful quilt! So generous of you to donate it; the lucky bidder will be thrilled.

Love the straight line quilting. That definitely was the better choice. :-)

And glad the hear that I am not the only one who can be so bugged by the choice in quilting that they will quite literally rip out the stitching and start over! I thought it was just me. LOL!

Great job!

Lol! I call the tool a seam ripper but what I *do* with it is unpicking!
Gorgeous quilt, that's great that you're donating it. :)

That quilt is absolutely beautiful...from the design, to the fabrics, to the quilting...I LOVE the quilting (and you are a much more patient woman than me if you un-picked quilting stitches!)
