Happy Father's Day

You know how they say you'll end up marrying a man like your dad? Well, I didn't think it was possible, but I did just that. I think that's the ultimate 'I love you', wouldn't you say?

I did get the upgraded model though... my newer model takes out the trash and is not at all interested in sports. And mostly likely won't make me a golf widow. But I digress...

My dad's always understood me. I wasn't the best student and growing up, that's pretty much your only job. I hated that I wasn't great at school, but I was always good with my hands and I loved to write. One day my dad pulled me aside and told me he knew I was an intelligent person but there was nothing for me at school, and that it wasn't my fault.

Every time I've had an idea to do something, he'd be the one to cheer me on and reassure me that I could do it. He's never told me I couldn't do something, and it's the best feeling to know someone has that much faith in you. And he was the first person to refer to my quilts as 'art'.

Happy Father's Day, Dad. I love you for always being optimistic and encouraging, and especially for seeing me.

[That's dad at my wedding reception in Singapore in his tux and bow tie, doing what he's the best at... laughing :) And that's me right behind him with flowers in my hair heehee]

yep, didn't think it was possible but.. i did that too. even my father says my husband reminds him of a younger him. maybe that's why they get along so good. and sometimes, just sometimes, i have a glimpse that i may be a little, just a little, like my mother in law. i'm in denial about it though :)

That's a really touching story about what your dad said to you re: school. I'm going to keep that in mind for my son--he's not the best at school either, but he's so smart and creative.

Your dad looks like a great guy--I love dads who love to laugh. Mine does too :)

Your dad sounds like an amazing guy! That was so great for him to be supportive of you even though the school thing wasn't working for you.

I feel the same way about Jon being the upgraded model of my dad (he cooks, he cleans!). Sometimes it's crazy how they will both say the same exact phrase but not know the other one says it too.
