Always Part With A Smile

We lost a family member this past week. I wasn't close to him but he's still family. My mother had lost touch with her cousin for years, and just recently, we found her in Australia. Since then my mum's been working at regaining a relationship with her, her husband and their two kids. They took a trip to Japan together, they flew to Singapore for my reception, and they became family again.

A couple of weeks ago, the husband collapsed and never regained consciousness. He slipped into a coma and doctors told the family he was most likely brain dead. My parents flew to Australia to be with them. My mum said she'd sit and talk to him hoping he'd respond. His wife decided to take him off life support last week, and over the weekend, he left us.

It's another reminder to never part with harsh words.

A close friend of mine will always remember her last words to her father were her chiding him for snacking on too many peanuts so late at night. He passed away suddenly the next morning. My cousin's best man-to-be died at his desk at work at 29. An uncle of mine went for an evening walk and never made it home.

So please make it a point to tell your loved ones that you love them and bid farewell with happy words. You just never know.

[The iris represents faith, hope and wisdom. I know his family could use some of that right now.]

Oh I'm sorry for your family's loss.
My cousin died a year ago on Mother's Day. So sad. I am trying to remember to be more kind.

My deepest sympathies. Thank you for reminding me of something I had put aside today in anger and disappointment with a loved one.

Audrie, What a nice thoughtful post. I live my life everyday this way. I live with death daily or nearly anyway. I am a hospice nurse. I experience other peoples loss and see many ways to handle it. Isn't it great that your mum reconnected and will be a great support to her. Thanks for sharing your story.
