I Have A Question...

The Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875 Quilt... Yes? No? Opinions?

I'm looking to upgrade to a better quilting machine with a bigger throat because when I bought my little Janome a year ago, all I wanted it for was to learn to sew and make little tiny things. I didn't think I'd use it much at all, let alone start quilting. It has served me brilliantly but I'm realising more and more that it just doesn't cut it. You can ask my husband how many times I start screaming about the small throat space when I'm quilting heehee!

I've heard both good and bad about the Husqvarna machines. Especially about the tension problems. But I hear the problems have been fixed, so... yeah.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions, especially if you have any of the Sapphire machines. Thanks in advance :)

I looked at that one last year. I have a janome 7330 and would only be willing to spend that amount of money on the 6600.

I think my mom has a sapphire machine. I borrowed it last year when my machine was in the shop and it was a dream to work with.

The wide throat is amazing and it seemed to me like the bobbins were really large (fit twice as much thread as my Janome bobbins).

Getting used to all of the digital controls took a while, but I think that once you're over the learning curve it would be a great machine to use.

I would definitely try to get it during a sale or as a year end close out though. It seems like the Husqvarna dealers really jack up their prices

Ooh, I'm definitely interested to hear what people have to say on this one! I also got a Janome about a year and a half ago. It's kind of a mid-range machine, and I like it well enough. But I'd love to have a bigger throat, too, and something that handles free-motion a little better. Good luck with your decision!

I have a husqvarna 200 which I love. It has no tension issues althouhg I do give my machine a spa week every year (she's ready to go soon). I don't know anything about the Saphire but I do like the Husqvarna name and quality. I also have to admit I've nver had any other machine so I can't compare. Yea, pretty lame help I know.

I drive a Bernina 200, but to get the longer arm on the Bernina you need to put down a lot of cash - really becoming cost prohibitive. I had a Viking years ago, one of their basic machines - it sewed beautifully, wish I still had it as a back up - they're good machines.

I have a Husqvarna, but the Emerald model which is pretty basic. I love it but wish I could have gotten a Sapphire. They have a a long reputation for being excellent and reliable, and are known for their heavy-duty motors. Good luck!

I have a Janome too (named Genevieve, who I love), but don't think I'll be able to afford a bigger, better machine for a few years. I'd love to hear what others have to say though, and what your experience is if you end up getting one!

I am a Bernina girl and most of the mid line machines do a fabulous job even when handling a full size quilt. The stronger motor makes for very precise piecing, Berninas are really the best!
