A Post Full Of Fail

I'm slightly annoyed with myself. And quite perplexed.

I finished my Snippets Pinwheel quilt a few days ago... popped it in the washer... and out came this rubbish.

Do you see the pink sashing? I'm completely mortified. Why didn't I pre-wash my backing fabric! Why! I got complacent about fabrics not bleeding (well, I rarely use red) so it didn't even occur to me.

The perplexing bit is that even though all the sashing turned pink, the triangles within the pinwheels remained perfectly white. Isn't it peculiar? I really don't get it and am quite amused by it. It kind of makes me forget about the pink-stained sashing.

The culprit. Hiss, spit, boo.

I have decided not to list the quilt (because how can I?!?!), but hang it on my wall instead. I have been saying to my hubs I wanted a quilt to hang on my wall, so what better than this. It'll make me laugh everytime I see it, and remind me not to be a dork and pre-wash certain fabrics.

The other fail is that I unfortunately have to postpone the giveaway I had planned. I hate to say I'm going to do something only to push it back further, but I really haven't a choice. I got four orders in a couple days ago, three of which are on super rush. Right after that, the giveaway will happen. But umm, I don't want to build it up into something big... it's just something I made that I thought would be cute for a giveaway. I just haven't been able to finish it yet. Why aren't there more than 24 hours in a day?

I hope you all have a great weekend. If you need me, I'll be in my studio, quilting like a crazed woman.

Just tell people you did it on purpose. :-) I have a "pink" top that would match almost perfectly... The really great thing is that it still looks fabulous, especially since the white inside the blocks is still white. Call it a happy accident with a lesson learned.

Sometimes if you rewash with a Shout "Color Catcher" sheet ot two, it pulls the dye out...Not always but might be worth a try and a good thing to use when washing reds. It's still a lovely quilt!

Oh my gosh.... I made a red white & black crazy log cabin quilt and I'm finally getting around to adding borders and quilting it and I'm super paranoid trying to remember if I prewashed them
or not!!?? Yikes...

Even with the pink its still a nice quilt. Its funny how only certain parts are now pink. Maybe its a Breast Cancer Awareness quilt? Now you can sell it for big $$!!! Don't sweat it too much, that has happened or will happen to EVERY quilter.

Aawww, all the work you did. Maybe you can donate it to the salvos there? They might appreciate it. :-)

Ahh red, always the culprit. I am such a pre washer of fabric, no matter what the color, but especially red. I am so sorry that it happened to you. It is peculiar that it didn't get into the pinwheels. I still love the quilt though. Have fun quilting all weekend!

what a bummer...but it's really nice that it only turned pink in a pleasing pattern.

The quilt doesn't look bad to me though. I think they make these color magnets that you can put in the washer...could you try washing it again with one of those to see if the color comes out?

I really like your Pinwheel quilt. I never pre-wash my fabric, but I do through a few Color Cathers in my washing machine and they work very good...picking up all those dyes in the fabric.
