Zoo Quilt

This Alexander Henry print is one of my favourites :) I've only made a zillion zoo quilts to prove this hehe I made this zoo quilt for a friend -- the only thing she asked for was the print -- and I've decided that figuring out what to do with a single novelty print is extremely challenging. But it's fun to be challenged, and I have maaaaany scrunched up sketches to show for it :)

(And you know what else is challenging? The light in wintertime. I love the colder months, but taking pictures in the gloom is not awesome at all. I've had to bring in portrait lighting and move my photo-taking to a room upstairs that faces a different direction. Oh the things you do for a slightly more acceptable photo! Still challenging -- and I might've gotten smacked on the head a couple times by the stupid lights -- but it's quite a lot better than shooting downstairs in my grey studio.)

I had so many solids laid out... all kinds of blues, greens and greys. A yellow even snuck in for some reason. Say whaaaat? In the end, I decided simplicity was key, so I chose one of each and went with it.

And I have to say, with this quilt, I began my love affair with Kona Iron. I still love Kona Ash but OH EM GEE IRON IS THE PERFECT GREY. I have yards and yards to prove my love. Good going, Robert Kaufman!

I did a very simple crosshatch (I think I'm addicted to crosshatch quilting now...) so the quilt's super soft and cosy :)

The backing and binding are fabrics that coordinate beautifully with the Zoo print. Dots and stripes... you can't go wrong :)

This is fantastic, love the borders. I am totally addicted to using gray in my quilts now, best neutral ever!

Gorgeous, simple and perfect. Echo that on the Kona iron, it's the new ash. I'm also partial to Moda Bella grey - also a lovely grey.

Great color combination and design. My grays seem to look like concrete! Maybe I should try iron.
Have fun in the snow!
