Single Girl Quilt Project: Update

Heehee! Look how pretty!

Shannon and I had another sewing playdate last Sunday, and I put together all 16 of my rings! Well, truth be told, I spent the actual playdate ripping seams because it was pointed out to me that I am a moron who can't read instructions very well (she did not use these words but I'm pretty sure she meant to say them). I'd sewn the quarters together with the wrong seam allowance. This is why I don't make quilts from patterns, people!!!

But I was very grateful that I found out before I'd put too many of them together! By which, I mean I'd already done four rings and was working on the fifth. I know. I have the dumbs.

I've sewn the first row together. I looooove it! I can't wait to get done with commissions so I can finish this quilt top and start tearing my hair out about how the heck to quilt this. Hand quilt? Free-motion? Straight line? Check into an asylum?

LOVE it!! I had the same problem with the seam allowances and wanting to rip out my hair...I ended up paper piecing my rings. It is looking just lovely though!!

Looks lovely. Sorry you had to use the dreaded seam ripper so much. I bet you'll really like your final project.

That is going to be one gorgeous quilt. What colour is the background, everything looks so vibrant against it.
My local surplus store has a huge fabric section; they just got some super Denyse Schmidt prints. Gotta go get me some!

It looks so fantastic.

As for quilting, maybe hand is the way to go. Big chunky stitches in a couple different colours of pearl cotton? Or just free-motion that sucker until it's sorry it dared to specify a seam allowance.

Audrey - WOW - is almost all I can say! It is exactly what I imagine when I think of doing a Single Girl. I'm far too lazy to hand quilt - tho it's lovely - I would free motion that bad boy up...

oh too funny - this is the *exact* colour combination I had (have? will it ever get done?) for my single girl quilt...I got so far as the decision, and buying the pattern and template plastic, and then was distracted by other bright and shiny things and small people....turns out osmosis is not nearly as effective as I'd like it to be with quiltmaking sometimes, ha! So yay - now I get to see the deliciousness unfold without any effort on my part!!! (and it *is* looking particularly delicious, audrie!)
