This quilt is especially dear to me. I named it the Stacked Quilt, and I must say it wasn't particularly difficult to put together and it's not about to win any design awards. It's special because I pieced it together with scraps of Moda 1974, my absolute favourite fabric collection.
I'd been wanting to make a quilt out of 1974 for the longest time... I've collected jelly rolls, charm packs and a layer cake, but they remain untouched, still tied up in their pretty little ribbons.
Then a couple of weeks ago, Dana was getting rid of her 1974 scraps and I happily relieved her of them. So not only is this quilt made from my favourite fabric line, but the fabrics came from someone whose work I admire and am inspired by.
I didn't really have much of a plan... I was inspired by this quilt, and I wanted to make the pieces much larger so I could fully enjoy the gorgeous prints. I sashed the pieces in Kona Ash (yes, I'm addicted to the stuff) and it very quickly became a king-sized quilt.
I quilted it on my darling Hedwig, of course. Straight vertical lines... two lines 1/4" on either side of each seam, and then 6" apart. I wanted to keep it nice and loose... plus I also didn't want to drive myself crazy hefting this enormous quilt any more than I had to. I'm only little...
The binding was pieced together with the leftover bits that were much longer, plus a few bits and pieces of yardage that I had. I love scrappy bindings. Love, love, love.
The backing is just a king-sized sheet from Target (I got it for $11 on sale a few months ago. Yay me.), and after reading this post by Amy, I sewed on a little label with my name and the date.
I named it the Stacked Quilt because the second my husband saw it, he thought they looked like five tall stacks of books. We love books and it's one of the things that drew us to each other when we met, so the name stuck :)

I love this quilt! Those stacks are flipping fantastic, and I love the ash solid in between the stacks. I am not familiar with this fabric collection, and now I wish I had some. Love it!
