Oh hey. Remember in my last post when I said my Moda Modern Building Blocks quilt was going to be a long-term project?
Yeah? Well. I finished. Tada. I really suck at doing things at a normal pace. But I enjoyed myself, so that's what counts, right?
Look at all the pretty colours :) I used fabrics from my stash, and just slightly justified its enormity. I only had to purchase a couple of fabrics, so I'll call this a win!
This one is one of my favourites. This 6" beast was a pain in my you-know-what to sew, but it's just so pretty. Look at it, all smarmy in its annoying cuteness. Don't look at any of my points... After a while, I didn't really care anymore!
This one is one of my other favourites. It's 18" and wasn't as painful to put together as the tiny ones. I love how the colours came out on this one.
Ahhhh a sea of colours :) I can't wait to roll around on it once it's all quilted heehee!
In an effort to prove that I'm completely insane, I actually made this bigger. The original quilt is 84" by 96", and I thought the 84" was just a bit too small for our bed. I sleep beside a quilt stealer person (I won't mention names... ahem) so the bigger the quilt, the less chance I have of getting frostbite.
I made seven more 12" blocks and four more 6" blocks. My sanity is definitely on permanent vacation :) But honestly, after you make 48 blocks, what's another eleven?? I also moved stuff around since I wasn't keeping to the layout anyhow.
Bottom line is, I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this bout of selfish sewing. I was going through a rough patch over the Christmas season (I won't go into it but suffice to say, I'm perfectly fine!) and this happy, colourful quilt helped cheer me up. Also the fact that it lays flat cheers me up so very, very much! I was petrified that with all the stupid little pieces it would be all wavy and horrifying. PHEW! :)
All ready for quilting... Don't know when I'll get around to sending it out but you'll know when it's done... Mostly because you'll hear my squealing from wherever you are lol! :)

This quilt is incredible, I love the colours and fabrics! Good call making it square!
It's fabulous. I think you should send it out immediately - the sooner to roll around on it!
This looks so fantastic! I wasn't sold on the solid version and I'm so glad you made a print version so I can see how good it looks before embarking on one for myself (a long way down the road).
I can't wait to see how it will be quilted! Beautiful work!
Would you mind sharing how you changed the layout/where you added the extra blocks? Thinking of enlargening it too, to fit our king-size bed...
Oh I love this! And it happens, some patterns and quilts grab us from the gitgo and we. Just have to get them done now!!! I have been wavering but now I think I am in!
Really, really awesome!!!!!!
Best version I've seen so far of this Moda BB pattern... love the colours, love that you added to it,and so glad you had fun doing it!
(did you have a colour scheme in mind or just went with the flow?) Linda
Wowie kazowie! This is awesome! I'm in a bit of a selfish sewing period myself. Feels so good to just PLAY with all the crayons in the box dumped out on the table. My to-do list still glares at me from across the room, but I'm giving myself just a bit more time. After all, January is my birthday month, it is freeeezing cold where I live, and no body will die if I don't tackle the list. I've been eyeing that sampler quilt since market. Your brilliant version may just be the next ME project! Thank you! Jerilynn. Jerisew.blogspot.com
This is absolutely gorgeous! Awesome, awesome job! It's going to look spectacular on your bed!!:)
So so good. You are insane, but we wouldn't have you any other way! xxx
You nailed this quilt it is gorgeous!! I love your color combos and how they pop.
Gorgeous! I am happy to see this quilt with patterned fabric. I'm hoping to tackle it someday. :)
I couldn't love this more! You are so talented and your enthusiasm for creating and making things your own - is inspiring. I love following your blog!
I also really like the mix of fabrics in this one. So much more original than following the recipe with the 'named' fabric! I plan on mine taking most of this year and I intnd to rely on the stash as much as I can.
It looks great. I really like the colors you chose.
What a beautiful quilt top! It's so hard to pick a favorite block - I love your use of colors, and especially love your fabric selections! Of course you added more blocks to this challenging pattern, lol. You're so inspiring!
It's just fabulous! You did Moda proud. Can you please post a pic of you rolling around on it ? lol
Stunning! You never fail to impress.
Really lovely color combination... gives me some ideas for a non-solid version.
Greetings from Germany!
This is positively scrumptious!
