Blogger's Quilt Festival - The Chicopee Single Girl

I didn't have to think very hard about what quilt to enter because look at it!!! This will be the second time I've entered a Single Girl quilt to the Blogger's Festival... it's just one of the best patterns ever, and though slightly tedious, it's enjoyable to make. Stop frowning at me, I'm being serious.

When I started, I warned Patrina that this would take forever but she wasn't fussed. Well, I clearly went insane because I think I crushed it within a couple of weeks. I still don't know how I did it, if I'm being completely honest!

My dear friend Patrina and I dreamed this gorgeousness up, and it very quickly became this enormous quilt we called The Beast. It's the largest quilt I've made to date... about 120" by 112" (or possibly slightly larger). And I pieced the back too, how ya like them apples? Oh so much swearing, but the result was well worth the effort!

There were 25 rings altogether, larger than the pattern's king. We just felt it looked better on her bed with 25, and then did uneven borders so that the width came out longer than the length. Her husband must be a cover hog just like the hubs :)

We decided on Denyse's Chicopee for the rings, Moda Bella Porcelain for the background, and Kona Coral for the backing. I think it was a perfect combo... everything just plays so nicely with each other.

With the scraps I had leftover, I made Patrina a pillow to match -- basically 25 rings weren't quite enough to make me crazy, so I thought number 26 might do the trick hehe! I hand quilted it since it's just the one ring, echoing the ring. If only we had all the time in the world to hand quilt everything.

What is it with animals and quilts? :)

All photos were taken by Patrina, who is just an absolutely beautiful photographer. The quilt was quilted by Laura, who does lovely work and managed to wrangle this giant on her long arm hehe

A big thanks to Amy for hosting the Blogger's Festival again! Make sure you go and have a look at all the beautiful quilts on display! Thanks for dropping by :)

  12. Gorgeous! How has the coral backing worked out with all the white on the pieced side? On my quilts with a lot of white space, I've stuck to predominantly white prints or light colors out of fear a darker shade will show through to the right side, even with batting. But I would like to use a bright solid like you did ont this quilt.
