Bloggers' Quilt Festival - 1000 Pyramids


It's time for the Bloggers' Quilt Festival once again! :) A big thanks to Amy for hosting and all the hard work putting this together!

My entry this time round is the 1000 Pyramids Quilt I made for my sister Averil. I think it's one of my very favourite quilts I've made, and the fact that she loves it so much makes my heart sing :)

I never thought Averil would ask me for a quilt because she'd never shown interest in having one on her bed. Little did I know her silence was just her thinking about what she'd like!

Deciding on a colour scheme for the quilt was a little grr... my sister was super fickle about what colours she wanted on there so she hemmed and hawed for eons. Finally I just told her I was going to make it and that was that hehe

Thankfully the picky little princess loves it, and she was so thrilled when I laid it out on her bed for her to find when she got home from work :) The best part of it was that I was able to take the quilt to Singapore and deliver it personally. Our grandma had just passed and it was a wonderful thing to be able to do something for her.

It was the first time I'd made a quilt with 60 degree triangles, and even though I was a little apprehensive (especially making a queen-sized quilt!), I pressed on and I'm so glad I did. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be and I learned to do something new :)

I work at my LQS and I try to tell beginner quilters (and even those who aren't beginners) that trying something new doesn't have to be a scary process. Everyone had to start somewhere, and learning is part of growing your skill. I wouldn't say I'm fearless, but I always tell myself that if someone else can do it, so can I!

    Your triangle quilt is lovely. 60 degree angels are not so bad after all. In Jan. 2012 C&T Publishing is coming out with a new book of mine called "Simply Triangles". Keep up the good work. Barbara

    Beautiful quilt and story. So glad you could give it to your sister in person. Love your philosophy. I am pretty much that way too but I've been sewing for 55 years. Of course I keep my seam ripper handy! Sometimes I've re-done a part six times but just keep plugging away. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

    What a lovely quilt! Sometimes it can be so hard to make a quilt for someone else, but I think making it yourself and not letting her choose as much worked out great!! I am sure she appreciates it everyday.
