Can you believe I've never made a zig zag quilt until now??? How'd that happen? I love them, so I can't understand why I hadn't.
A friend of mine asked if I'd make her friend a baby quilt for her little boy who's on the way. I suggested the zig zag since it was on my mind after having taught my friends to do HSTs the week before. I used half square triangles to make the zig zags because I wanted it to be kind of scrappy so it wouldn't look too flat. By the way, placing the colours took longer to do that to actually make the quilt... I found that both amusing and frustrating hehe
She'd asked for something with dogs on the quilt because her friend had a pug. Initially she asked for pug fabric but every pug fabric I could find was waaaaay too realistic-looking. Not sure they'd want a picture of a pug on the baby quilt so I went with this doggie print I had in my stash.
I used the doggie print as the light against all the colours. The print doesn't have yellow but I thought I'd add a row of yellow just to have more of a rainbow effect.
For the back of the quilt, I used a grey and white chevron print to keep with the whole ziggy-zaggy-ness hehe I stitched in the ditch with white Aurifil thread and bound the whole thing in Kona Iron. Love that Kona Iron!
Love it! I want to make one "some day "too. What size are your HST?
